i don't mean to be funny but it aint Trent Reznor's album. its Saul Williams'. Trent helped produce it. Then again, you knew that from the link going to Saul's site.
Yearzero remixed is out soon. Yay |

I don't like to buy CDs because it always feel like a rip off knowing the thing is worth about 50cents, it will scratch, it is much less convenient than an mp3 cd even that I would burn for slightly less than 50c. But I do like buying albums sometimes to support the artists and also to play real vinyl records at parties or otherwise, something a CD or mp3 can't compare to. So I wish they would make vinyl more accessible. Often you can get it but it is hard. I would have bought the Radiohead vinyl but it was about $80!!! which is just too much. $30 OK, I don't need the special collector edition anyway. I was a bit turned off of buying vinyl when I got this Chicks on Speed 99c album for about $26 (!?) which I thought would be nice but the recording quality is bad and my mp3s actually sound richer (!!!???) So I worry about that. I don't mind the odd scratch, but if the mp3 sounds better. Anyway I guess all of this is to point out that the recording industry is doing a bad job by pretending to be in the middle. They aren't doing digital well. They aren't doing real product vinyl. So basically it is up to people at the margins to do those things, which is nice but it means its an unrealised market. In the middle are the idiotic big players who do these lame digital CD physical products with DRM, or really privacy unfriendly DRM downloads... none of which appeals to anyone but those ignorant of alternatives. Anyways, I really appreciate what isohunt does, and it is really in public service, not just profit motive.
thanks! |

| First off, I'd like to highlight another up and coming artist, Wil Deynes. He is selling his tracks on iTunes, but also decided to promote his music for free here and Myspace. A torrent is attached to his release page here. It's good music so check it out! |
Been a member for quite a long time in here and never made a single post till date ( you know .. the typical leecher.. who never says Thanks! ). But had to make this post .. well Deynes' music is just too good.
Wow .. keep it up buddy.
And IH, Thanks for featuring this ( and AHFM as well ). Would love to listen to more of "Good" music from budding artists in here at IsoHunt.
Reminds me of Demonoid who used to feature these quite often.
Talking of Demonoid, anyone knows whats wrong there? |

I'm guessing this album might be a parody of David Bowie's The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust...? |

This will be my first post as well. I've also been a major user of isohunt (that sounded almost as if it was a drug lol).
I completely agree that while downloading music and not paying for it is wrong, you shouldn't have to shell out 20 bucks if the artist you like only has one good song on a cd. I like to think of it this way: if you see someone on the street playing guitar (I can't say that I actually have in real live yet but you get the idea) you would tip them if you like they're music. They don't make you pay up front, then play some crappy songs and just only one you like, well...hopefully not lol.
People should know that if someone is always getting their stuff stolen and aren't making any money off of it, they won't exactly be encouraged to make more of the music you love. This might also be the reason we have all this crappy DRM just to stop people from stealing. But yeah I'll admit I download alot of music. If someone says check out this band I'll probably go and download a few CD's. If I really like them I usually buy them, once I can afford it.
I'll help with some seeding here as it's the least I can do to help. I play a bit of bass and have tried making a bit of music myself. If anyone wants to have a look at it search for Neomatrix640 on AcidPlanet avoiding url block will get you banned. I have a good idea of what it's like to be an artist even though I'm nowhere near a professional.
So yeah... Support the music you love and do the same with torrents by seeding as much as you can. Sorry for my long post here I feel like I've said something important lol.

That reminds me...this might be a bit off topic, and I don't wanna sound like those spammers advertising porn sites or something but thats a good site for people wanting to take a look at some independent artists. Its a sony website. and seeing how I have my two posts now I think here's the link
www.acidplanet.com
. This is probably a good place for people looking to find some good music they wont find in any record store or if they do make music, they can put stuff on there too.
I just hope I dont get in trouble for seeming like an advertiser or anything.
I think some people on there don't get the credit they deserve though. There isn't any donate buttons lol
Just out of curiosity, anyone else try out sony acid? I think it kinda sucks lol.
I tend to play around with Adobe Audition alot.
hmm... That actually reminds me that the whole concept of paying for music you really like, applies pretty much everywhere else too. If you enjoy a movie or a program, then pay for it. Thats just my thoughts.

But Neomatrix640, in your opinion, isn't isohunt a drug? (LOL.)
This comment will corroborate/respond to others' comments, so I'm posting it as a normal reply, only a shame others won't be notified about it. This is, after all, just a comment.
I understand ghsodt666's point of the retail price being grossly overrated, and I can't help but feel frustrated when looking at the price hike: when you look at the way things are, no wonder the artist only gets so little from a single CD purchase; Major labels, distributors, retailers, everyone wants their cut of the deal. These people are the ones responsible for the fact that prices hit almost heavenly heights (and could possibly be blamed for this whole mess, but that would be a bit of stretch now, wouldn't it?) That's why I could only recommend to people, if they truly want to purchase a compact disc, that they do it through the band's label directly. Nearly all labels sell their CDs online, and often they're nearly half the retail price of a regular record store, also shipping doesn't cost so much. It's a nice way to keep purchasing records while saving money and you won't feel like you gave too much money to too many people. (This, however, shouldn't keep you from encouraging your local indie store if there's one near you, these people usually aren't so bent on profit and they're often able to provide with items you just couldn't find elsewhere. There used to be one in my town, but they were forced to relocate and couldn't afford it, so they closed down.)
I second Odin's comment also, you should pay the artist directly if you intend to pay at all. If you wouldn't know what to pay, then here's a mere suggestion: Remember how I just wrote about saving money by buying directly from the label? Well you could just substract what you would pay then from the retail price of a record store, and give the difference directly to the artist. But, setting apart from money issues, the first thing you should do if you really want to support the artists is to get them known. Spread the word. The more people you can attract to their show, the better for them. Concerts also mean merch booths. Remember this: There is no DRM on a shirt...and just with it, you can promote a band all day long.
A lot of you probably know about this, but here's an interesting article:
(Link removed because I am not yet allowed to post any. It is entitled " When Pigs Fly (...)" and is available as a link when you reach the remains of Oink.)
There's a whole section dedicated to explaining various ways to support a band.
Now for the part of the comment pertaining to the original topic, here you have a brilliant example that illustrates what I meant when I said to get the artists known in order to support them. I'll be sure to check Wil Deynes' tracks. This is the community promoting an artist through word of mouth, simply put. Besides, if you heard it before, you'll be confident when you buy it if you do. I salute artists like Wil Deynes who feel much more concerned about getting their music to the people than questing for instant profit. Also I recommend everyone takes at least a peek at the canadian study, if only the summary and results.
As for DhumKetu, I don't know where you are located, but it's been a while since Demonoid has been completed banned in Canada, and since Oink has fallen down, it is more than likely that Demonoid will be taken down soon. The industry seems to be bent on crushing them all. They're waging war against us! |
