It's that time again. That time when our fine elected governments, pull out some old shit we've universally rejected, renames it, and pretends it's something new and different we all want.

So I thought I'd ask before it's put to the vote this time (if it is, that's still up in the air). What do you think of it? Do you even know what it is? Have you read a word of it? Do you give a toss?

I'd also be curious to hear whether you guys think we need an EU constitution, and why or why not.

Since I'm asking, it's probably polite to mention my own stance. However... I tend to go on a bit, and I don't want to turn people off answering. So; I'm just as certain we need one, as I'm certain we don't need this one. And I really don't want us to have this one.

Write interesting replies! Vote in the poll! Don't win lovely prices!

EDIT: Bloody... *Grumble* Only 4 poll options? Cheap shite.

It's a hell of a challenge.

The US was at least united under one major language. I don't think Europe has a collective identity/ideology to support a Constitution. We could do with some kind of uniting document to give us an identity. Look at the dischord over the invasion of Iraq. There's no unity. Even the Human Rights legislation that most nations signed up to is optional.

American states have differences, European countries have national conflicts. Regional identity is way too ingrained to buy into a 'European' one. Shit, we have regions within regions. Great idea but even Kofi Annan couldn't get a seat at the party...
