people who re-open threads from years ago? Am I the only one who gets tired of seeing a thread with new posts that was started in, say, 2005? Or am I just easily annoyed? Twisted Evil

Well i'm just making it back to the forum Smile so im not aggrevated or anything.

My suggestion is similar to many other forums. Allow people to necro threads where they have valid reasons too doing so and are bringing something worthy to the thread.

However, obviously that occasion is quite rare and you'll just end up having a number of idiots still aggravating you.

There are lots of folks joining this forum every day, and if they feel strongly about somethin mentioned in the past, i guess they are entitled to voice their opinion.

Ofcourse i hear what ur saying about folks dragging up old posts just to pass time, tho i'm sure the mods here are on the ball.

Yeah its ok sometimes,in fact sometimes it shows that they have at least used the search function.
Most of the time its just annoying though.
I just want to go a little off topic though and say what annoys me most. Razz

Not reviving ancient threads but reviving relatively new ones.
Receiving an email saying "Krlll someone has posted in a thread you are subscribed to"
Oh I wonder what it is?

Depends really if it is a thread that hasn't been posted in for 18 months yes it is annoying but if it is a thread that was started few years ago and has had a steady stream of replies and the odd lull then it don't bother me much at all.

Smile

I think it depends on the Subject of the forum.
If its something that wouldn't be irrelevant a year from now then yeah it should be opened.
If its something that will be irrelevant in a month or so then yeah a month or maybe three is a good life span for that forum.

Example1: A forum was opened debating the purpose of religion in a modern age.

A forum like this should have a longer lifespan because asking for opinions on a subject that won't lose its strength after a few months.

Example2: A forum is opened with a poll asking which is the better system, the Xbox, Gamecube, and PS2.

The forum is again opened several years later when these sytems have all evolved into the next generation of consoles making this forum seriously outdated.

So there should different rules for different types of forums. What applies to one forum shouldn't always apply to the other. And if something is seriously outdated and people still want to open the thread then a vote should be cast.

I have a strong opinion in this matter. I plan to post it in 2011.

LOL!

I think about 2 months after the last post is sufficient... but that's too hard on moderators. Maybe an automated system that shuts them when they meet that criteria? But that would strain the server, no doubt.

Well...as Green Day said: ' Good Riddance:

So take the photographs, and still frames in your mind
Hang it on a shelf in good health and good time

I admit, though, I have been thinking of clever ploys to raise some threads from the dead... but I don't want to get in trouble or anything.

I fact, Muummmmm was the word; but when I saw the phrase necro threads I said;, wow! -- 'That's too cool for school.'

LOL LOL LOL
The irony of this thread being necroed from a year ago cant fail to ammuse!!!!!

Neverending polls that show up in the random poll box on the right of my screen probably have more to do with threads getting necroed rather than people actively doing it. I accidentally did it with a music thread here in debates Razz Laughing
