What inspires you?

Inspiration... where does yours come from? I find it hard to find inspiration right when i need it. I'm curious to see how other artists find theirs.

heartbreak really inspires me...eventho it hurts..it really helps be 100% honest

been said before and I support it: inspiration is everywhere. you just need to be at the right moment, at the right time. pretty much anything can click that 'something' in your head and move you to the zone. ANYTHING works.

for instance, Shigeru miyamoto created Super Mario Bros and Zelda to resemble his childhood experiences when going into the woods and exploring rivers and caves. He created Pikmin when doing gardening in his freetime. Hideo Kojima created Metal Gear inspired entirely by american films of the 70s and 80s, in particular Carpenter's Escape from New York. His spy themes are taken straight out of the bond films, american noir sinema, and cold-war era flicks.

sitting on a roof somewhere, watching whimsical children's movies, doing things to make me feel small-- like standing next to a really tall building or a large body of water, eavesdropping on elevator conversations, studying history and religious texts, inkblots, cooking really amazing and really simple food, sleeping and dreaming, long baths, tattoos and runway fashion.

I'm sure i could list over a thousand more, but those are my favorites.

Tranquility...I need absolute quiet if I'm going to write a song. That's probably why I haven't written anything in three months, except partial songs. My dad's been a real bitch lately. Soon's I get on the comp to open Sequel, and set up the bass, and mixer, and keyboard, he starts whining about not being able to check his email. Since I live in a travel trailer, there's not much room for both of us, and even less to get peace of mind enough to lay down tracks. Oh, well. Someday I'll be able to afford studio sessions. Nice thread.

tons of stuff, but as far as the technical aspects are concerned, other musicians. it's really like DJ Shadow says; you don't bring the music to the track, the music comes through you.
