I am trying to download 2 xbox games that my original discs got scratched and are unreadable (xbox is softmodded, and all my games have been put on the hard drive but these 2.) How do I find the IRC diwnloads? I installed and setup mIRC, but have no clue what to do with it now. I have already tried torrents and it seems that torrents for the original xbox are not being seeded. Any help is appreciated.

By the way, the 2 games are:
Grabbed by the Ghoulies
Tomb Raider Legend

Thanks!

No, not asking 2 questions. Just trying to find out how to use mIRC to download files. I already have mIRC installed, just have no idea how to find the files or how to download with it.

mIRC is not a bit torrent client.. You are looking for utorrent... http://www.utorrent.com/ Wink

Okay mIRC is not a torrent client program, its a chat program.

in order to download torrent files you would need a bittorrent client such as utorrent

No, I am not trying to download any torrents, because there are none (at least none that are seeded.) I simply mentioned that I had already TRIED using torrents.

I was under the impression that you can find and download games on IRC (and newsgroups, which I know even less about!), but I can't figure out how. Maybe I'm just misunderstanding...

File exchanges are done using "DCC" with server triggers, DCC is available in mIRC and most clients. File sharing is not allowed at several networks, so you will have to do some Googling and checking with different networks.

Do not use DCC or server triggers in #isoHunt, it will just get you banned.

I know this isn't a popularity contest of IRC clients, but I found mIRC to be very confusing the first time I used it. Thanks to the greatness of HBS , I now have X-Chat and it is truly great. For an IRC noob like me I suggest trying X-Chat to start, I have had good luck with it. Smile

You can send DCC files to other users, but can't download torrent files Smile

You can use IRC to exchange files between two people.
its complicated ( for me) as hell, and i know for sure its really risky.
And NO its not fast,... unless you are lucky and find a network with a fast upload speed.... chances are just...slim.
If you are still interested... Razz
this link has a few facts about downloading with IRC.
http://www.irchelp.org/irchelp/security/war2.html

p.s.. if you want to download a file, the best way to do so, is to use Bit-torrent.
simple... yet, gets the job done.

I started using IRC for file sharing back in the 90's - and although it wasn't fast or very end-user friendly, it was effective. Over the years I migrated to audioGnome then BT - but I still use IRC for file sharing (mostly just ebooks anymore) - just not as often. Call me a nerd but CLI excites me.
I'm not going to repeat the obvious "RTFM" but if you do take your time and read the FAQ's you'll get the hang of using IRC for file sharing.
Good luck -
