- You can use boolean operators (-, |, OR), wildcards (*, ?), and phrase search (") in your query
- For BitTorrent: Paste in a 40 characters info_hash, to search for that particular torrent and get all trackers for it

I'm not sure if i need to forward my ports or not, and i'm really bad with these complex computer issues... Anyways, i only have 1 computer with internet, so i dont think we have a router, and i think thats why i cant seem to access my router.
So does that mean i dont need to forward my ports? Because my torrents download at like 10 kb/s, how do i make it go faster? |

Do you have high speed internet? Did your ISP provide a router for you? It's not the same thing as a modem. It doesn't matter if you have 1 computer or more, but having a router is basically used for more than one computer. Check to see how you are connected to the internet...using what hardware...
I don't think it can go faster. It really depends how many users have it and are sharing it with others. |

As weaponX8238 said, some torrents are just slow. If its JUST one torrent... just DL something else (as well).. or go and come back. Eventually it will finish.
But to clarify. Do you need to forward ports?...
Your bit torrent program has to be able to TALK to both the trackers and the peers of the people you are DOWNLOADING (and SEEDING) from/to.
Without a router you are DIRECTLY connected to the interent. If you have a high speed internet connection and only had one computer I would STILL buy a router. Why you ask... let me explain.
Your computer has over 65 THOUSAND doors (ports) in which programs comunicate between your computer and the WORLD (internet) most are good programs... some are BAD.
With a router (or firewall) there is a DOORMAN placed at every door. Only packages to DOORS that the user EXPECTED a package gets through. Hardware ROUTERS will IGNORE other traffic.
This means 2 things... bad software that is NOT going to ASK you for permission can't get through (easily) BUT it also means good programs that you want working may also not work properly.
For these you PORT FORWARD.. or send an outstand message to the DOORMAN at specific ports (doors).. please send ALL packages from your door (port) to MY computer... I'll be OVER here (you local IP address and port) when they arrive.
So if you DO not have a ROUTER, then you don't need to forward ports. But I WOULD recommend a software firewall just to keep you SAFE from viruses/trojans/spyware/hackers. And depending on what SOFTWARE firewall you use.. it may need to have its ports OPENED... to allow your bit torrent client access to DL (and UL) with the other peers and trackers. |
