I am confused about all of this. maybe its because I am just new.

Firstly, our search results are currently bugged with missing torrents, due to a software glitch. We are fixing this and should be corrected in no more than 2 hours.

As part of this glitch, we've upgraded our spam detectors against the ever increasing flood of spam torrents.

Secondly, we are testing a new ad format which you probably have noticed. It slides up from the bottom right corner. It doesn't show on every page, and it shows high quality advertising that should interest you. I've been wary of more intrusive ads like popups and interstitials (full page ads that you have to skip through), but advertising is doing badly in the current economy, and the slider I believe is a fair compromise.

I do want your feedback on the new ad format, it's why I'm posting this. Please tell us what you think, and I appreciate your understanding of why we are testing new ad formats. Your experience on search quality of isoHunt comes first as always.

Just one point: I hate people who peer over my shoulder and decide, from my TCP/IP address what language I speak. Not that the ads worry me too much, since I don't understand them.

You've no idea how irritated the Californians I know get when I tell them they should speak Spanish, because that's what most people in California speak.

I'm on a boat. Are the ads going to be in Portugese next week, then French, Dutch, English, Belgian and German? What about Suomi?

I have noticed, that when ever the "KIO-Fish" advertisement is there, my CPU usage goes from 5% to 56%++
lol but WTH the site is free and adds SHOULD be there.. so i dont really mind the adds.

edit
p.s The number of Pop-ups have reduced. Come to think of it... i did not get any pop-ups for the past 3 or 4 days

kusumuck "I'm new be nice to me PLZ!"

Seemed you could have been nicer about the slider ad Smile

You called it a pop up ad, it's not.

I think it's fine. Thanks ISO for keep the ads from being annoying, I hate those pop ups or the continue thru ones Sad

I'm not gunna lie. As soon as I came on the site today and that popup slid up out of my corner, I rechecked to make sure that I typed the address correctly. I'm very displeased with the slider. If I want to look at something on the bottom right part of my screen, I have to scroll the bottom of the page to the top of the screen. I know that might not seem like a big thing but ANY sort of ad/pop up that won't get off my screen/out of my way gets very obnoxious, very fast.

Don't get me wrong, I understand that you have to have advertisements as revenue but please don't make it "IN MY FACE!" advertising. It's a turn off and I honestly have no idea what the ad was even for, just that I wanted it off my screen and out of my way.

My 2 cents,
Kusumuck

Actually, I'm pleased to see you have folks who will advertise on the site. Says something about "free" enterprise..no ?
I come here alot, often just to read comments from other users that help me get a little snapshot of current thinking as regards this form of web service.
It's embarrassing to admit where I originate, considering the totally awful and completely rapacious legal system I live beneath so, I feel a tad better when I can scrape up a coin to donate here and the ads are unobtrusive but, I agree with a couple of others here when I say I would tolerate full page ads you had to wade through to get where you wanted if it means IH would survive the legal issues and ensure its' existence on the web. Just no pop-ups !

Like Ev2 says, the benefits of your site outweigh by far the small inconvenience of random ads. If the income from some ads allows you to keep on truckin', by all means do what you have to do. Isohunt is, after all, a national treasure:-)

Pop-ups and slide ups are easy to pypass with Firefox.
The most annoying ad is the Crush 'You have 1 message' that leads to problems for anyone thinking it's genuine.
It infested Photobucket so I cancelled my account.

Would I leave Isohunt? No way! But I'd love Crusher to fall out the bottom of my monitor. Smile

Great site, you work hard, thanks.

My browser blocks pop ups, and I have recently been noticing over the past week or so an increase in pop up blocks from this site. It temporarily freezes explorer when this occurs, and occasionaly doesnt respond and i must shut down explorer. Its becoming quite an inconvienance, and as i ve said its only been happening as of a week or so. (My computer is brand new top of the line by the way so its not that) This doesnt happen with other blocked pop ups on other websites. The fact that i see 10 different things loading at the corner of my browser(that i assume explorer is trying to block even though the rapid procession lets one ad sneak by sometimes) i believe has something to do with my problem, prehaps just tone it down a bit? But anyways i love the site and can live with these hassles for now. I understand you need ad revenue, but when the quality of my experiance on the site begins to be affected because of ads you must start to decide on priorities. I may be only one out of millions with this problem, if thats the case tough shit for me i guess.

I think the new format is an acceptable form of revenue.
It's fairly unobtrusive and hey, as some1 else mention - the site is free with free downloads - wooo yay, so no-one can really complain. And the lack of the dreaded pop-ups is a breath of fresh air.

I love the work you guys do and also the uploaders - you all rock!!

Regards from a seeding novice Very Happy

With the paid isohunt supporter thing and the ads, who wants to venture a guess how much this site is pulling in in revenue? Isohunt, care to tell us? Didn't think so. We know traffic is high on here. I won't bet real money but will guess the site makes more per year than some users of the site make having real jobs.
