I use BitLord myself, so I could have voted BitComet as they are virtually the same.
I like the user-friendliness of it. I could have easily configured a more difficult client myself but why bother. This one I installed and it was good to go right away.
I used to be a Torrentstorm-fan, it's not updated anymore, though
That was basically just an Excel spreadsheet, but the speeds were amazing compared to the (back then) CPU-hogging Azureus. |

I use both BitLord and Azureus. and they seem to be hogging the same amt of mem. (50563-Azureus and 55648-BitLord). Is there some reason?
Personally though, i like Azureus for it's polished interface, and the setup optionsit gives and the way it gives them(again interface). Although
it seems
that BitLord is a bit faster at downloading stuff. |

Yes bitcomet and bitlord are faster when compared to azureus. But they download more rubbish data too.
I use bitcomet though for its user friendliness. |

It's upto the user to decide that. If they dont mind downloading a little extra rubbish data in order to finish a download faster then bitcomet is best for them. But if they're the "no i want a clean download. No rubbish data for me" type then azureus is the best client for them. |

I use utorrent. I find it fairly good, much better than bittorrent, which I used to use. |

By rubbish data, do you mean what azureus calls discarded data in the general file info tab? What exactly is this? Does it mean that some of the seeds have this rubbish data on their system, or does data become rubbish on it's way.
If the data is rubbish, does it mean it's redundant? If so, they why it it downloaded in the first place? How does it make the download faster if it's data that's not needed? |

You have some good questions, Spartacus! And they require long answers!
This is what happens when any BitTorrent client downloads any file:
1. The client (such as Azureus) requests the data from a peer
2. The client receives the data, and checks it
These are the possible things which can happen next:
3. The data checks out ok, and is written to disc. This is fine, normal, and the best possible scenario.
3. The data does not match the request, and is discarded. This means that this data, although it may be perfectly good, was not the actual data requested by your client. The other peer sent the wrong data, your client does not know what to do with it, and so discards it. This is not tragic. It just means that the request will be made again until the data matching that request is received. Probably BitComet doesn't do as good a request as Azureus does but downloads faster in general because of that.
3. The data is corrupt, or incomplete, failed the hash check, and is discarded. This means that the data sent on this occasion arrived in an unusable condition, and so was discarded. This is also not tragic. It just means that somewhere on the journey between the peer who sent the data and your client, something damaged the data. So your client will request that data again until it is received.
Azureus is one of the few clients that has an option to ban ip-adresses that have sent you too much rubbish or discarded files. On most other clients you will have to do this manually if you can figure out who is sending these rubbish pieces.
I realise I went quite a bit off topic there. I couldn't resist |

Hey i'm not a n00b for nothing ya!
Ok. Another one: r should i start this in a help section? Sorry Vijay, but...
I've been runing Azureus and BitLord simultaneously since recently. Now what happens sometimes is that my download speed just drops and ultimately goes dead. Unless i shut both clients off and restart the modem, the link doesn't come back on. I've tried all permutations and combinations of net program usage, and figured that only when both of them are running, it does this. Before i had only Azureus and it never did this. (But never have i shut all clients off, didn't have the heart, for myself and for the uploaders.)
What could be the reason for this strange behaviour?[/quote] |

I think you have to see it like this:
Downloads tend to try and push any other internet-usage to a lower priority. You may have noticed that surfing the net is slower while using a client. Now if you have two of these bullies fighting it ends ugly for your connection. Neither of them can win so they both lose.
It's not a very good idea to have two clients running at the same time. You will have to choose which one you want and stick with it.
I think you meant downloads instead of clients in the end, didn't you?
Sorry mvijay,

I was using both (Not always together) only to see which one i liked better. Now i'm comparing with utorrent. It's really small!!!
Seems to combine things from Lord and Azureus.
@Heyer: No, i meant clients. I have to close them, switch my modem off, and reverse the process to get my connection alive again. But i guess it happened when i ran both clients together. Didn't really notice when only one was running. I'd sometimes come home and see it dead and go completely mad at my provider and it would never strike me to see if both are running. |
