How can you compare these two completely different genres. I like a little of both of them. I like bands like Operation Ivy and the Dead Kennedys, but I also like DMX and Xzibit, just to name a few. It would be hard to choose which one because they are so different. Just my opinion |

I'd say rap.
Punk is alright to listen to, however Rap generally involves more talent. Traditionally punk consisted of no guitar solos, and people with little to no talent trying to make it big. Sure, pop punk and the newer stuff has changed it but that takes away from the actual punk feel... Don't get me wrong, I've listened to everything from the Ramones, velvet underground, dead Kennedy's, the smiths, and even the modern stuff. I prefer the older punk. As for rap, I've listened to a little of everything, from TuPac, to Lil Wayne, from Andre Nickatina, to Souja Boy... i think you get the point. I don't like a lot of the newer repetitive, unmeaningful rap, but it still over powers punk in my book. |

Most punk is very good, plus, it speaks of issues that most wont. Although I love rap or hip hop, though not the new crap like Soulja Punk and all these idiot yougnens, I like the ones with good talent, Jay-Z, Kanye, old school Wu-tang, 2pac, Biggie, even Lil Wayne. Gym class heroes, Ozomatli, occasionally Eminem, hey, hes got some talent. Myself, I love for my bassist to get funky and his lil bro (the drummer) to lay down a phat groove, and I jus bust. Give me the mic! |

I dont really like punk anymore but ill say punk anyway. I think there is more talent required to be in a punk band as apposed to being a rapper, maby not traditionally but certainly these days. Most rap we hear today is sampled and cut n paste music most likely put together by a producer, not the artist. both genres had something to say back in the day but now its all pimping or falling in love with the girl at the rock show, respectively. learing how to play an instrument or becoming a decent lyricist is easily done with practise but its a watse of time when you end up palm muting power chords or rapping about shooting somebody. |

hey ya i would say rap and hip hop (no matter myself being an artist)
it's just two different genres like ying and yang
but i'm standing by this couse this type of music has more advices and life adventures trough lyrics which describe artist life and his own views to life and point of living
but thats only my music
most of rap hiphop artist now days do music just for money and in u.s.a. all of that is too commercial and most of artist there do not need to put up their slieves up and fight for position and fight to put up own minds to the ears of listeners
here in serbia look at me as an example , i do not have own producer or beatmaker or people that do me lyrics , i do it all by myself
even the parts when i need to get the money to pay up studio time to record new song
P.S. check out topic that i've posted it's called SYSTEM (SERBIAN RAP) and you can listen up my music and music of my band, also who would be interested in translation of the lyrics so he could get trough and meet me trough my songs should just contact me here on pm or on myspace

One of my artists named Delusional did a punk/rap album. Its actually mixed with all kinds of weird shit. Check him out at
http://cdbaby.com/cd/delusional
And here's his 2nd album which was more rap orientated but still had that punk attitude towards the industry and of course the live guitars and bass here and there.
http://cdbaby.com/cd/delusional2
Check those songs out free on those pages and let us know what you think of Delusional's punk/rap hybrid. |

Rap's the best thing that's ever happened to music.

Punk was my transition between Beethoven and Death Metal, so, I owe it a lot.
Never cared much for rap, though it's not that I can't stand it so much anymore... I don't mind it anymore. They are about tied with me right now. |

I'd have to say rap, mainly because I just flat out hate punk. Singers in punk bands have awful voices, not much of a rap fan - but I'd have to go with rap on this one. |
