To uncompress various file formats such as
.zip
.rar
.ace
.### - .### (# are increasing integers), ex. .000 - .045:
- WinRar

To mount CD images (.iso, .bin / .cue) on hard drive as virtual CD drives (can potentially get around CD protections):
- Daemon Tools
- Alcohol 120% (no experience with it myself, but seems advanced) - .MDS, .MDF image files

To extract files inside CD images directly to hard disk:
- IsoBuster (Screenshot of how to extract files inside a CD image)

To burn CD images onto CDs / DVDs:
- Nero (v6 does various other things as well, such as ripping and converting music and video formats, such as VCD, DVD, MP3, WMA, etc.) - .NRG image files
- ImgBurn will do any image apert from DAA

To make exact duplicates of CDs / images:
- CloneCD - .CCD, .SUB, .CUE image files

To decode various video and sound formats (DivX, XviD, Ogg Vorbis / .ogm, MP3, etc.):
- K-Lite (mega) codec pack ( isoHunt Release )
- Same page: there's also the Quicktime and Real alternative codecs, so you can see these video formats without using the Quicktime or Real players.
- Before you install the codec pack, clean your Windows of existing codecs first.

To encode, convert and do various things with video formats:
- Guides at VCDHelp
- TMPGEnc ( Estranged's video conversion guide )

IP blocklist manager for P2P spammers/abusers:
- PeerGuardian

To do security research on trials and backups:
- Astalavista
- GameCopyWorld

And to expand on burning CD images with Nero 6, you either :
1. burn with Nero using the CD image option (Disc image or saved project in Express)
2. extract files with isoBuster (right click the non-all-caps folder and "Extract"), then burn the files with anything u want

That's it for now. Feel free to add to the list Wink

with Win XP you can just right click and select "always open this type of file with this program" and choose "notepad" or save the text below as a .reg file and double click it. (just the part in between the dotted lines)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\Shell\NotePad\Command]
@="notepad.exe %1"

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

also here is a .reg file for making a dos prompt a right click menu option in all folders for windows 9x/2k/xp

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell\DOS Prompt\Command]
@="command.com /k cd %1"

Ok, I'm kinda new at this.

I've downloaded a file ending in .iso, so with the Daemon tools I should be able to install it?

Since it's not an executable (.exe) I can't just double click on it and have it install itself.

So again my question is will Daemon tools allow me to be able to install this file?

Thanks in advance

ok i have a quetsion
i downloaded a game and i twas a .bin file having 2 cd's, cd1 and cd2
i installed daemon tools and installed the game and it said
input cd 1 and started intalling
input cd 2 and then started installing
now its done installing and it says i need cd 2 in the cd drive to playt eh game. so i click on daemon tools and make sure that the cd 2.bin is on there. and it is so it actively shows up on my computers as a cd being there. when it autoloads and i click "play the game" it says that it cant find the cd and untili i load the cd the game wont run.
i dont understand this becuase clearly it said i need cd2, so i input cd2 and earlier it started installing so that means it "knows" the cd is in there. but this time when i try and run it, it says that my cd's not in the cd drive. why is this?
how will i be able to get my game running??

thankyou

Hi, you seem to know a bit about file types and stuff.

I downloaded a game (MGS original PC) which consisted of the 2 files:

MGS1.DFI
MGS2.DFI

I assume they represent both disks. The only thing i can find on DFI files is either a font type file or a backup floppy disk file (very old program)

ANY IDEAS (i have a range of programs i have tried to mount/ burn these with and none of them recognise it)

i have just downloaded spinter cell, the problem i have is that my disks are 700mb and the file is 780mb, can anybody give me an idiots guide to burning this on to cd,
yes i am a newbie at this
Use Alcohol 120%, and select the option for "Overburn Disks". Not all burners support this, so you may be screwed anyway -- but if your burner supports overburning, A120 will do the job for you.

filext.com says it could be "DiskFactory32 Diskette Image". Go there
(www.filext.com) to get more info.

I recently downloaded doom 3 reloaded and it seem the files are password protected. Is there anyone who has access to these passwords?
