I got one letter a while ago...got peerguardian and havent been busted since.
Peer guardian is a good way to protect yourself though accidents can always happen. I keep pg2 on ALL the time even when im not sharing.

I've always used PG2 (although can't now as I'm running Vista) and I've never had a problem in regards to any DMCA notices, etc. But I've read things in the past about "how useful is PG2?" - it's had mixed comments.

So should i keep PG2? Is it easier to find me by having it to suspect or not to have it and less of a chance ot recieving some sort of notice?

Thinking I need to try pg2. ISP shut off my service because of the above mentioned activity. I got it back on by promising to "be good", but they had sent me 7 letters about notifications they received regarding my p2p internet activity and they said one more and they will shut off my service for good. Now this sucks because I love the ability to download, but I love having internet service better!

Got mine last week and had to fax in a form since it was my 2nd offense. Got burned by HBO both times. I am going to try PeerGuardian but I have Vista x64. Hopefully it will protect me in the future.

Just thought I'd add my two cents. A few hours ago I noticed some weird lagging in my pc so I did a netstat check and discovered a couple weird connections.

One of the connections was to k2test1<dawt>microsoft<dawt>com. Never even heard of that one before.

The other one was to customer-security<dawt>cox<dawt>net.

Both of these connections were established via a few files when I did a netstat -b check:

svchost.exe
mswsock.dll
ws2_32.dll

I still don't know which service was causing it. I tried stopping/disabling all of them one at a time, no luck. After PeerGuardian2 failed to fix it, I downloaded a free firewall and just blocked the files. It seems to have worked. I'd like to know just exactly what they were doing. The only thing I can think of is that I d/l'd a harry potter sample off usenet. I don't use my ISP provided usenet service though, so I'm not sure how they'd know I d/l'd the sample. I won't know if they email me a threat-letter, because I have no idea what my isp email is lol. Maybe they'll send me something via snail-mail.

Anyone else experiencing the same sort of thing?

As I understand it, these servers are run by a couple of guys in Australia who cannot conceviably pay the amount there being sued for ,
So (and this is just speculation) the possibilty that they might make a deal to lay blame on the individual users of programs like Kazaa on their servers is very real. Such as monitoring , tracing and and charging people for copyright infringement.
