Simply question, does txt talk annoy you? Does it piss you off when folk come on to forums an' abbreviate words? Do folks not realise that it came about because back in the early days of mobiles you were charged by the letter but is superfluous now as that isnt the case anymore.
Are the youths of today doin' themselves a disservice by only writin' in txt talk? Are they becomin' illiterate cretins as a result? (ok, Byron i aint but...)
Furthermore, bein' an international site isnt it more difficult for folks whose first language aint English to understand what the hell they are talkin' about?
Is it just laziness? |

Depends on the person - only one person I know pisses me off when they do it (no one on this board), but that's only because they only *try* to mimic my own use (which I am not guilty of having done for quite a while now, mostly because of this). Most others don't bother me so long as it's legible.

Indeed, necessity is the mother of invention, and no one will ever love [it] like [it's] mom does

That, or thinking it's "cool" or "cute". I only ever still do it to deliberately annoy or add flourish to some point when I happen to be being sarcastic ( ). |

I don't text! No seriously I don't I'll always phone the person. Main reasons are that my eye sight isn't that great and I find the whole texting thing tedious and impersonal.
I wouldn't dream of using text talk on a forum! |

I like to use good grammer, so my txts read like a letter, I have pickd up txt spek and use it wen I can to reduce the size of my txt as it costs me more money.
As for the poor kids, well as a teacher, when they use txt spek, sorry text speech in their GCSE's is very sad, because they lose marks for grammer and spelling, also the examiner cannot understand what they are trying to say...shame really...cos they are really bright kids but the habit is hard to break

It is mostly laziness. I never text on my phone. So I never learned all the text cheats. I think to text on the phone is just to leave a quick message for someone. Some people have whole conversation. To me that is just dumb when you can just call them. I don't mind when others use text talk here as long as it is understandable. |

Yeah, I have a full keyboard on my cell so I text in real sentences. My plan allows me 5,000 a month...I usually use around 2, 500 or so..most are incoming from work. |

It's not always about laziness, where I live they don't have contracts or so many messages for £5 or $5. Its by the character, you know so many = 1 text message, so if your texting overseas, the less you use the more meassages you can send
P.s Thank you iamnephilim for your sense of humour |

I dont mind the odd word here and there abbreviated but sometimes its like going back and forth with a mental patient. Worse than this though is when people send you emails in text speak. Nobody over 10 years old should be using text speak (dislexics excluded) especially if you have a QWERTY keyboard in front of you.
Prefer to just make a call to be honest though. |

Mentioning QWERTY keyboards just reminded me, do you guys know the longest word you can make only using the top row of letters? (QWER...)?
TYPEWRITER
(Strange that!) |
