Why make a anti virus programme that uses almost a gigabyte of hardiscspace, dosent take spyware and slows ur system down???
I have been downloading a lot of shit in my time, and got a lot of viruses. I used norton for a wile, but the viruses comes anyway. Then i used f-secure, and i havent got a problem since. Scans everything even before u open it. Incredible |

I agree completely - downloaded the newest version of Norton a couple of months ago and my older laptop practically locked up! But to give them credit, when i explained the problem, they gave me a full refund. Norton needs to stress how much space they need for the program, before you buy. I'm currently using AVG - it's OK and it's free - for spyware programs, ad-aware is great and free. |

I don't know what Norton product you used, But I call shenanigans.
I have used Norton products since the early 90's currently Norton 360 and I have never had a virus infect my PC and it does take care of
Spyware
.
The main program folder = 50.8 MB
The live update folder = 19.3 MB
The process symlcsvc.exe uses 448 K (ram)
That doesn't seem like much to me (unless you have a 166mhz processor with 16mb ram) no mater how many times I add this up I don't get 1 GB.
Edit:
hell the installer is only 49.4 MB |

It's not my first choice, but I know that a lot of people champion it and others burn it on a pyre, I think it goes down to checking
before
installing as to whether it's right for you.
A friend of mine had the strangest thing happen, when he installed a version of it a few years back it conflicted with something else already installed and ultimately crashed his computer - taking a lot of valuable coursework with it. Out of caution now none of us would touch it with a barge-pole.
Of course, there's also the question of
where
you're getting your software from... some torrents can give you nasty, or unnecessary extras that you wouldn't get from the real deal. |

I installed trend micro pc-cillin internet security 2008 about 2 weeks ago, I'm pretty happy with it so far, except for the fact that it claims to be incompatible with programs like spybot, ad-aware, and just about every scanning program around. I ignored it and installed spybot and ad-aware as I usually do, everything still functions fine except that the spybot and ad-aware scans take about twice as long as normal. I probably would have preferred to get kaspersky, but the stores near me didn't sell it and I wasn't sure if my pc was safe at the time to purchase it online. |

I've never used trend micro first hand so I can't say how effective it is for antivirus but I've always felt it was a bit bloated but most AV programs are. I've been using Symantec antivirus 8.1 Corporate Edition for years on all my XP installs and I don't have any complaints. The install is less than 10MB and you're basically getting the same protection as Norton AV but without all the extras. New definitions have come out for it every couple weeks or so without fail and it's managed to stop all but a very select few virus's from infecting my systems. I keep the installer for it on a USB drive and have installed it on countless PC's I've worked on for various customers/businesses. Best part is I didn't pay a penny for it.
My problem now is that it doesn't work with Vista so I'm on the lookout for something equivalent to use for my Vista installs. |

Norton 360 works well with Vista. It's a small install 70.4MB (Norton 360 and Symantec folders) three running processes using under 5,000 K |

norton is known to be pretty shitty.
my combo on my tower is spybot S&D, Comodo Firewall Pro, and Avast! anti-virus.
my laptop is the same minus spybot, it uses 8MB of my 320MB RAM. |

I don't get why people keeps using shareware programs when there are many free programs that work quite better, and don't cost shit.
I use AVG Free, and it's liek the best. |

Apparently there were rootkits inside notron which were open to the internet, so if you received a data miner, Norton would put it in its rootkits. That meant that any hacker could access the rootkit folder and put even more viruses in your PC!......Silly Norton |

Yes I agree Norton SUCKS. I dl'd the 2006 version and hated it. It took too much control over my system, and installed some sort of malware that kept giving IE popups in Firefox, WTF. I will never use Norton again. To me it looks like Nod 32 is the choice. But it isn't free? |
