I am looking for a usenet client that I can use to download files from sites like seedpeer.com (they use both torrent and usenet). I don't want to use UseNeXT because:
b) people say that it's a scam.
I have some NewsLeecher, but can I download files with it, too? I am a total n00b @ usenet. I haven't found a good client yet. So what do you recommend? |

There are other perfectly good usenet clients. Check out Newsleecher (I use it), Newsbin Pro, NewsRover and Android if its binaries you're after, otherwise there are plenty of free apps for text based newsgroups. As far as I know, UseNext consists of both a usenet subscription and binaries downloader. I dont see anything wrong with it myself, but they're not the only ones to offer usenet subscriptions. |

I know a few people who are more-or-less forced to get a usenet subscription because they live on a university campus, and don't want to deal with proxies and home servers. So, the next best thing is UseNet, which also protects your privacy pretty well.
I've also seen that UseNet, despite requiring payment, works pretty well. If you pay for it, chances are your in luck. I myself don't use UseNet however, so I can't much help. |

I bet you meant UseNeXT, but the problem is that I don't have the money, web-payments work bad from my contry (we HAVE to torrent soft illegally 'cause most only payments don't work) and I don't really want to pay for downloading illegally... For now, I'll try figuring out how to use NewsLeecher, and let's see what happens |

I've personnally tried UseNext (trial account) and it is much faster than any download method I've used before.
That being said, It costs money (not worth it for me)
And theres a monthly download limit with a paid membership,
which may not bother everyone but if I'm paying to download I don't want a F*#& limit.
Too bad theres not a successful crack of UseNext but the way it operates I think itd be near impossible (I wouldn't mind being proved wrong though). |

You cant crack usenet. You need access to usenet servers and that requires log on details. Theres no way around that. Consider that usenet has been around forever, and if there were a workaround method, it would be well know by now. Either pay for it, or better yet, find an ISP that provides usenet access as part of your subscription. Retention for binaries usualy is no where near as good as a paid service, but for example, I get unlimited usenet downloads, but only 7 day retention for binaries and 180 days for text based groups and about 77,000 usenet groups in total to choose from. |

I get free Usenet too, I use Grabit its free, but you have to pay for search.
Mainly though I stick to torrents. |

I tried a trial of it and it doesnt seem like a scam. Sure there might be some files that are fake but when i used it i liked it!
It has its own files and then you can download torrents. You may have seen this video:
http://ie.youtube.com/watch?v=U5vs2ly_grk&feature=related
A 712mb cd image was downloaded in 1:24!!!
I downloaded a movie i couldnt find anywhere else and it was dvdrip and done in minutes. Although i dont use usenext now as i cant afford it i would use it if i could |

Well if you want an alternative you could always look at
Comparison of news clients
in wiki.
I usually look to wiki when trying to find alternative software.

The software is free but access to Usenet Servers isn't.
Sorry to rain on your parade |

I've used Usenext now for about 6 months and I did the trial first....no problems. But like another post complained...if you can afford it. I don't doubt that some people have been burned, especially a few years ago when the company was younger. But I know people that have been burned by Bestbuy, but the store isn't a scam, lol. KsbjA, Usenext is not a scam, whether you like the software or not. Buy a Nintendo Wii for $19.99 - now that's a scam. Usenext does exactly what it advertises, keeping in mind results vary depending on your connection speed/bandwidth (but it'll still be faster than ususal). So if your hang up is that it costs.....then I'd suggest not going with it. But personally I think that the increased download speed is worth it. Oh...and ALWAYS do a trial first. |
