I like em all(depends on my mood) but I would have to say shooters. You can't beat killing things. |

Hybrid FPS/role-players like Fallout 3 & Hellgate arrived at a near-perfect balance of the two genres (& I usually hate RPG's---too much skill-pointing and not near enough shooting) but as for a single game-playing experience you can't do better than a horror show like Bioshock or F.E.A.R.---nothing beats turning around and squeaking like a dog-toy because something wearing a New Year's mask from
The Shining
and Elk Antlers is leering at you. |

I voted for "hang on a minute - you didn't include this..."
For years I have been playing Blitzkrieg, a real time strategy game, which involves no civilisation/building.
It's tactics, skill and sometimes a peppering of luck that wins on this one |
i remember that game yo! its mad fun |

| RPG's are the best. I hated buying a game for $50 and beating it in 6 hours, but one day I was given FF7 and 62 hours later I was amazed and hooked to RPG games. No title comes close to FF7 but it opened up the world of RPG's to me. |
soooo true ff7 was & still is the benchmark 4 RPG |

I gotta say I don't have much use for FPS games. I find them extremely boring when you just keep going through the same rooms and same terrain over and over and over again. There's just no progression and nothing remotely challenging to the intellect. That said I do think first person rpgs are cool. The only one I've played is Elder Scrolls: Oblivion which is very well designed.
I like rpgs (single or mmo - NWN, WoW, EVE etc.), sim games (mainly civilization) and some browser based games like AstroEmpires. RTS are fun but if you want to play them seriously you have to dedicate a lot of time to memorizing hot keys and training one to be able find them without looking at your keyboard. That gets pretty dull until you get good enough to do it without looking.
--------------
I almost forgot to say that I love Myst and other puzzle type games as well. I wish someone would come up with and MMO that combines rpg and puzzle solving in a big way.

Thats the magic thing about rpgs though...You have to spend some time to learn them but then you enjoy them the most imo |
