There are alot of valid points here...but I would have to go with free w/ no commercials as the advertisements on the initial TV air has served it's purpose- to pay the network and in turn everyone else. I pay for my broadband connection. Maybe pay a dime (USA) or quarter for the uploader's time in weeding out commercials. but there will always be people who do this for their own benefit first, just to collect, then upload as a courtesy to others (praise these people).
I state this simply because my HD is my friend. I like being able to see the episode after it has aired and be able to keep it for all eternity. There are shows i simply download, watch and delete which is where the actual dilemma takes place.
Then you have to take in to account that in, say around 1992, a standard 1-hour show may only have 8-12 mins. of commercials versus the latest episodes of say CSI which have a good 18-22 mins. usually worth of commercials. I like being able to download an episode of something for free and not forget what the hell I was watching halfway through every break. It's like i'm paying for cable that really does rot my brain in this way.
P.s. - I used to live overseas (germany, 1992-1996) and actually pirated British satellite TV. Most americans did this as this was the only way you were going to watch TV period without resorting to AFN or local non-english stuff. I hear they're actually offering this to service to people now, maybe as a result EU. I lived there pre-EU so...I do feel your pain. We had no broadband connection so webpage took forever to load if you could even afford the internet at the time. I think AOL was the only choice we had on base. |

Heres how i look at it.
I pay for cable
I pay for hbo
If i miss an episode I can record it and watch it any time I want
Whats the difference if I download it to watch at my leisure .
I still payed hbo for the right to watch and record it. |

Well...
Seeing as they're working to impose a TV tax in Canada like they already have in the UK, I'd say it's worth about $10 month so says big brother. |

I dont think I would pay anything
I mean you can just watch it on tv if you dont want to pay
so might as well be able to download an episode for free if you missed it
but if your buying it on a disk then I could imagine paying for it becuase of the price to make the disks and to put it on the disks
but for downloading doesnt cost much but for the bandwith prices |

Ya right $5 for an episode...I would spend more than getting a satellite dish and service, just for watching a few of my favorite shows...no way |

I think a television episode's worth is relative to the time it is released, just like video games. The newer the release, the higher the cost. Unlike video games, I think the length of the episode also should play a factor. Even though I immensely enjoyed Max Payne 1 & 2, the fact that it took 2 hours to finish each one was a disappointed when I paid as much as a game that could have provided 40 hours of play. |

I'd be fine if there were commercials, it's only fair for the price of 'free'.
For non-commercials DLs though, I dunno, maybe $0.50....I'm stingy OK? |

I couldn't have said it better myself, over here it's the BBC who still refuse to finance their channels etc with advertising and rely on license payers. I think they would probably earn more through coming in line with all the other companies and use advertising, but no, they believe it would detract from the quality of their programming and their fans would be up in arms for the break in tradition!? Well, I say French Connection United Kingdom to the BBC and their tradition, the only programmes on BBC I watch are Dr Who and Being Human, which equals over the course of the year about £65 to £70 per series/franchise (I think an annual license is about £130 per year or thereabouts)! BBC grow up and join the 21st century ffs! lol |

Not a damn thing.
Considering what I pay for Digital Tele, Star Choice Sat, and Internet, that is, as far as I am concerned, part of the not-all-that-reasonable deal. Nevertheless, this is a sacrifice that needs be made as it is necessary to be absolutely in touch with what is going on at anytime. |

Depends.....$1 for a song is fair because the average cd has around 15 songs and is $15 retail.
If a season collection of dvds is 22 eps and costs around $50 then an ep should be around $2-$3....but I'll just continue to get them for free |
