Reading stuff like this makes me hate online social networks even more. People are too irresponsible (as a whole). I've never seen the positives to this stuff. If you're not good enough friends with someone to call them up, or go see them....than what is the point. |

although that's a tragic case, it doesn't happen very often
social networks like myspace and facebook are great for networking or getting reconnected with past friends.
people on facebook tend to be more mentally stable since the network consists primarily of university students. |

Heh I owe 90% of my logic to sites such as that. I have most of my veiws readily availible
here
already. There is even a poll in the aforementioned thread as to what social network you use. I included all I knew, which is a lot.
That said, I hate most social networks. Myspace was fun for maybe a grand total of 3 hours, but when people I knew who were reclusive like me acted like whores on there, I was like **** this.
All it is is people with no life's acting like they have them for attention. When someone shines them a brief light of attention, they cling to it and ask them out or assume they want to be their boy/girlfriend. It
always
ends in immaturity. Never heard it go so far as suicide, but that just shows how pathetic the world is becoming. I know what it's like, I tried (and promptly got fed up) it a while ago (though I was notably there because a "friend" (who I barely knew - really just met once) made me a site
without my permission
.
It's stupid... I feel sorry for the affected in that article, but not for the suicidee.
I opt to stay fairly active online, albeit in less personal sites and forums. I hate online entanglement, it's annoying as hell. Worse than spam.
Yeah, I feel strongly about this If you don't understand anonymity of the internet, or ignore it, you shouldn't engage in emotional affairs online. Hell you shouldn't if you [b]do[/i]. |

Well I have a myspace, I pretty much only use to keep in touch with my niece. I can't say I really like them, But I think if some one kills their self because of what someone else says they have far worse problems anyway especially over a myspace comment from some one she has never met in real life.
Yea I think its sad, But it is a cruel world out there and nothing anybody says to or about you should bother you at all, let alone to the point of killing yourself. I mean WTF.
Just my opinion. |

I hate social networks, I'm just bad at them. It's so much harder for me to present myself on a crappy page to a stranger than it is in real life. With me, what you see is what you get. I have no hidden agendas, and so have a really hard time making shit up about myself, or tooting my own horn. I'm just normal, I think, and don't consider myself special or unique in anyway actually. Keeps me humble. I have one just to keep in touch with some kin I've recently been reacquainted with, but it's blank except for some pics. I can't get passed that part "Tell us about yourself." I despise reading those things. I'm tempted to just write "I, I, I, I, I, I, I," as it seems that thats mostly what people write in paraphrase. Everyone looking for a way to out do the last one with their clever little self statement. In fact most conversation can be summed up with few words..."I, I, I, I, I,"..."No no, I, I, I, I, wait what, You? No, I, I, I, I, I," and it just continues that way. I hope you see my point. And people are f**kin sick, and it seems to be a perfect outlet for their illnesses and their own fucked up issues that they make other people carry for them. It's a horrible story Vizzible. |

I have a facebook page which I have used to re-establish contact with some old friends and keep contact with some new friends who dont live near me. We use it to swap pics and stories, I think I have about 8 albums up which most have given me good comments for and I like to see pics of my friends recent adventures.
I dont think such sites are a good place to meet new people tho. You dont know who is who unless you already know them. (but then I am a distrusting bastard!) I really really think getting emotionaly attached to someone you only know on-line can be very dangerous and pretty stupid most of the time altho u hear about some success stories. Ill let the gals I already know wreck my head, they do a good job of it most of the time, I dont need someone I Only know as an avatar having a go as well, I mean WTF How do u even know ur talking to someone of your sexual preference???? |

Yeah pretty much. Heh, you got your two posts, thanks for getting them
legit
, I respect you for that
I get nostalgic ocasionally and try to check up on old friends. I moved around a lot growing up, met a lot of faces, most of which I still haven't heard from, some which I did hear from that I don't remember, or else I remember them but they don't remember me.
heh.
So I guess I can say it has some benefit. When they don't go "omfg wth happened to you, you used to be so cute... now you're sociopathic..."
=/

Off topic: Whats this two post business?????
On Topic: Ha, my old mates say OMFG Wheres your hair gone????
My new mates see my old pics and say OMFG You look so much better with short hair(50%) or OMFG You should so grow your hair again (50%)
+ its kind nice to brag about my travels but i missed some serious partying in europe which I kinda regret missing but its interesting to see what paths youve gone down....
I think things like facebook are good so long as u use them responsibly. Maybe they should have age restrictions tho looking at that you tube "myspace kid freaks out" vid (see fave youtube clips thread in the lounge) |

Any social network requiring people to put up their real name and date of birth is putting its users at risk.
One of identity theft.
Two a stalker could find their address or other personal details.
Others things to watch out for are emails, or even threads on forums, that ask you to put your pets name and maiden name. These are two common questions asked by many sites to confirm you are the person who made an account with them.
As much as I love the internet, its also a place which requires utmost caution. Remember that the same people that are out there in real life are also on the internet. That includes criminals, stalkers, thieves as well as the nice people such as your selves.
Social networking is good, but it has some really bad side effects to those that are unaware of them. |

Thanks
Omega
for the reminder how unsafe the internet can be... a point maybe I should have also addressed, but oh well, I had a rant that had to be unleashed
As for that myspace kid freaking out... omfg that looks staged though... |

A year has passed since someone spoke in this thread but the harsh reality is that social networks are a BIG waste of time. Internet is for work, info and some fun, but people today with profiles in it spend huge time innecessary just updating stupid things... |

And another year has passed and I am still busy here at Isohunt....social enough i think, no better place to chin wag and have a laugh with someone and not at someone.
EDIT: sorry forgot to mention laugh at politicians pawn'd retarded spammers and and occasional nitwit that decides to play 20 questions and then get angry. Got to admit thats funny and laughing at someone so not perfect but dammed close. |

Just thought I should say, I enjoy when sluts/manwhores post their exploits while drunk or to boast and then their parents or professors see it. It makes me smile |
