I upgraded from windows XP Pro x64 to Windows 7 Ultimate x64 (neither legal), the weird thing is it wouldn't let me do the seamless upgrade you can from vista, so basically had to start over. Most of my XP drivers worked in windows 7 (or the standard windows drivers) but i updated them all just to be sure.

Now I have everything working, but sometimes when I play PC games the screen will go black for 1/2 a second and then come back. It doesn't seem to follow any pattern. I updated my video card drivers again just to be sure but it still happens. And it only happens when I'm playing 3D games. Anyone know how to fix that?

I have an XFX (nVidia) GeForce 8600 GT with 512 MB of vRAM. and I have updated my video card drivers and re installed those drivers to make sure that they were installed properly. I cannot update the monitor driver because the company doesn't make one, it is just designed to run on the windows Plug and Play driver.

the newest driver isnt the best driver for the 8600 gt... gimme a sec and i will get you the one i use...

edited to add:

kk, everyone was havin issues with the newest driver releases, sluggish performance and performance issues in general... im using 182.06, and it works great and should work for you as well:

driver (says for vista, but works fine in win7 x64)

driver sweeper:

you should uninstall your old driver first, install driver sweeper, boot into safe mode, run driver sweeper, analyze and clean for nvidia display (not chipset!), then reboot and install the other nvidia drivers... you should always clean up the remnants of previous driver installs...
