Decent folks vs. corporate giants
+++++++++++++++++++++
Note: repost of mine, was meant to be here originally, sorry!
Hello from Greece
,
and Keep fighting, it is the only way. I joined the forum to reply to your post, to wish you good luck with your struggles.
Did you say Canadian industry?
It is the Canadian and global industry in its entirety, not just the music sector that follows abusively aggressive tactics to destroy whatever they do not own. That is disgraceful and unacceptable.
I know what it's like to be a normal decent person and have your life turned upside down
suddenly because you have to fight against financial corporate giants trying to bring you
out of existence. This is how it happened to me:
Bombardier Inc. and the Hellenic Ministry of Defense (HMoD) have illegally and immorally profited from Greece's last purchase of 10 Bombardier amphibious fire-fighting aircraft. An inside job that needed a $26 million dollar sub-contractor scapegoat to bite the bullet of bankruptcy. This scapegoat happens to be Uptek S.A., my family's company, established in 1984, bankrupt in 2008, courtesy of corporate Canada's best and the Greek government. What a privilege, I am honoured. These gentlemen even have a "Code of Ethics and Business Conduct" which they posted on their website. This pledge of hypocricy can be found at the Bombardier website.
Our website is down because we can't even afford hosting, so uptek.gr is now closed
That's the least of our concerns though, as we are now faced with becoming homeless due to the bankruptcy and our carefully planned sea of debt which Bombardier Inc. has incurred on us.
Searching the Internet about Bombardier Inc., I discovered that they are a family company too. Founded by the ingenious grandfather, the next generations developed the family business into a global player. Well good for them. The Bombardier family maintain control of their company, but today, somewhere within Bombardier's middle management, there is financial foul play with the HMoD. And I am the victim of their greed. Scandalous, but everyone turns a deaf ear, our judicial system, the Ministry. These bubbles though eventually burst, look at the world markets.
All the financial foul-play evidence is on disk. This disk has been copied. Each copy is located somewhere else. Copies are copied, distributed, and the copiers do not know the locations of the other discs. Follow the same practice because financial giants have a lot of cash and it seems they also do as they please.
We (Uptek) have taken legal action against them (Bombardier), but the case now is dropped due to bankcruptcy. Such are the subtle and clever methods used by people motivated by profit. "Castles fall from within".
So take care people , find your inner strengths and multiply them.
They have cash, we have guts.
Respect to Isohunt.

I think it's retarded how some companies go far out of their way to attempt to harass others regarding copyrights. I wouldn't assume it to be a noticeable issue, at least 90% or maybe even 95% of people i know still prefer to buy music cds and movies on dvds. Myself i love torrent downloading for downloading the tv shows i watch in hd quality to watch at my convenience since i rarely have time to be able to watch each weekly episode of each show without fail. For me being able to download them to watch later when i have the time, it would be real bad to not be able to do that, but it wouldn't surprise me if companies complain about people downloading tv show episodes too, although they're aired on tv for anyone to watch. This copyright issue is just a line of bull, similar to what got the USA in such bad shape, also causing it to trickle worldwide now, due to large companies being so greedy, wanting to get paid more money for everything, regardless of it's relevance. Far as the money, it's a relative small percentage as to what the artist and the label makes off of selling albums. The bulk of their money is made from concerts, live performances and special events, not record sales, but they don't want to lose out on a few extra dollars. I know a few artists that started small and got big, but they welcomed their songs being shared on the internet to get them noticed by more people, to make more money when touring. I hope all goes well with the potential lawsuit. These larger corporations may enjoy their greed, but the more they try to step on the less wealthy, they don't realize that it's the bottom part of the money food chain so to speak that puts money in their pockets, without the people buying things, the larger companies wouldn't be rich. |

A scottish band called travis have said they are happy for peope to download their albums as it raises their profile without spending money on advertising and also saves money on not having to cut discs and distribute them.
I would also love to know where the figures come from considering media company profits are up pretty much across the board also how are they losing money if someone (not me of course) downloads a film they never had any intention of buying anyway?
I feel its greed, and a soap opera called "ED" is a perfect example, they wont release it on DVD because it is too complicated and expensive making sure the multibillionaire music copyright owners whose music is played in the show get their additional monies.
Anyhoo I made a donation today ,hope it helps and keep up the good work |

I am extremely glad that someone is stepping up to this.
I am currently helping a record label called Vulpvibe, and they have a certain banner on their site...
renard.teknolust(dot)org(F-slash)vulpvibenew(F-slash)store(F-slash)pirate.jpg (Because I'm a noob and can't post URLs)
This sums it up. What draws business? Free shit. People eat it all the time, so how about the owners give something better than shit?
That's what people like Renard Queenston, Trent Reznor, and Radiohead did, so it's time the industry learns a lesson or billion.
Anyways, I sure as hell hope this goes well... |

Being a United States Citizen I must say that I am thoroughly aroused by this subject.
All humans have the basic right of free trade. The easiest thing to succumb to in this world is greed and currency. It should be completely and wholly up to the creators, developers, musicians, composers, directors, film-makers, and artists on which way they want their product distributed. Now I will also say that these publishers and distributors have the wrong idea and if I were releasing any sort of expressive material the first place I would go would be the internet, but then again I am just another one of those people who DON'T DO WHAT THEY LOVE AND ASK TO BE PAID FOR IT. On the other hand I would take donations if people actually appreciated my music or art because it is TIME CONSUMING.
Now I will point out that downloading material and redistributing it for a profit to the common public in some sort of fashion should be illegal. That is a completely vain act because the person making the profit did not produce the material on it, they simply recreated it.
I, for one, download torrents or whatever you want to call it to find new things. As a personal observation I have noticed that I will download a discography or something then if I like it or appreciate it I will buy it. I don't think these companies realize that the commonwealth doesn't want to buy or own a terrible or bad product.
I would like to skate on one other point here. The profits that these record companies, movie companies, and corporate conglomerates are seeing is obscene. Greed and excess are at the heart of most overly-profitable companies. They have no concern or regard for the common man who is buying their product. They have proven this over the years with shaky lawsuits and direct attacks on the public who, in turn, openly gives them profit.
The prices on these forms of media are ridiculous anyway, being a lower class person myself I can't afford to buy cds that cost 13 dollars when there is maybe only one or two songs on it that I want to listen to. Movies are terrible with this as well. Now if I were in a court hearing what I would bring up to the judge and/or jury: Look them strait in the eye and ask them if it were worth 20$ for an hour of something that you didn't want and fifteen minutes of something that you did.
I rest my case, by the way IH if you would like to use any of this post at your hearing or you just would like to use a few quotes you may do so. I am not scared by Big Brother and if you were willing to pay for my plane ticket and traveling expense I would come testify for you and the whole IsoHunt community and any other free trade/ownership hearings. |

If your lawsuit doesn't work, sue the people individually for slandery. We almost went this route when a city code enforcement person was preferentialy enforcing the city mowing ordinance.
I fully support you, I will donate when I have the cash. |

HI new here, and just wanted to say that now that p2pnet has won the linking issue in the supreme court , this should favorably affect any outcome of torrent sites as to there linking.
Also would like to say keep up the good fight, and good to be round.
Glad you choose the offensive in this one, shows real courage. |

Guys,
Just wanna say there are so many people with you on this your not alone.
As one poster said already I download discographies and play-lists of copyrighted material so that I can choose what to buy. I am a cd collector and love music. What they don't seem to get is the or "lost revenue" is make believe..I can afford to buy what I can afford to buy that will never change..file sharing enables me to judge and test the worthiness for purchase.
I subscribe to online legal download site and I still buy cds. As a music collector I have been "ripped" off by recording corporations for years, they so you buy a license not a product so how come if I bought the license for an old audio tape or vinyl that I still have to legally buy the cd etc.
I consider myself ethical on the grounds I purchase the albums of bands that pass the test..I never rip off independent labels ever and I love it if I can buy direct from artists. I don't think I am alone..the sharers are I seem to recall reading somewhere the most likely to be also the purchasers of music so go figure.
I also as a linux user depend on torrent files and sharing for distros and apps.
They can go to hell the corps and the lousy Canadian authority, they so don't represent music or the love of music...we keep it alive and new whilst they stagnate on the dollar value..
Screw them all ISO team you are true to your cause and have a wealth of support.
Christ I even joined a forum to express...wow! |

Hi Guys,
Just wanted to make you aware of the recording industry fraud: fair use of copyrighted material is a right and is not subject to licence.
When the industry claims that a payment must be made for any use of a copyrighted work and you refrain from fair use because of that claim, then you have been defrauded. Also the industry sometimes misrepresents copying as being theft, which it is not.
Because licence fraud is so widespread within governments (eg marriage licences, driver licences etc), you are unlikely to get any official recognition of this issue.
Ethically speaking, the best strategy is not to accept any commercial benefit from the distribution of creative works (music, video, etc). Legally you should be able to recognize and describe potential fraud in order to avoid becoming a victim. |
