I know most people already know how to do this, but I have seen a few inquiries into how to post pics on the forums. So I decided to make a guide, here goes nothin.

Photo Uploading and Posting

Step 1

If you plan on posting original images and not just stuff you found on the net your going to have to upload your images to a hosting site. There are many free image hosting sites on the net, some you have to register for others you do not. The registered sites usually allow you to save your images in an online album however. If you don't want to upload images every time you need them I suggest registering at one of the sites.

Here are a few of the more popular sites:

=> Photobucket

=> ImageShack

=> TinyPic

If you need to upload "risque" images (you know what I mean Very Happy) try this site I found. It seems they are ok with all kinds of images.

=> ImagePut

Disclaimer: No questionable images or porn are allowed on the forums. Just posted that link in case someone may need it.

Update: Found this site for editing animated gifs . No download necessary.

=> GIFWorks

=> A list of free hosting sites from Free-WebHosts.com

Thank you to Disconnected for that tip.

Step 2

The following instructions will be based on Photobucket but, the principal is the same on pretty much all other image sites.

-> a. After you have registered at Photobucket (or site of your choice) and are in your album, you'll be able to start uploading photos and other images. Look for this area on your album index page and choose where you want to grab your image from. Select your image/s and click "open".

Image

-> b. After you're image has uploaded you'll be able to get the code necessary to post your pic on the forums. Look for this area on your album page and click the IMG link to copy the necessary code.

Image

-> c. That's it, just paste the newly copied code into your post and now you can see your image.

Some sites may show the [img][/img] code with [url] tags around it. In which case just copy the [img] part of the code.

Side Note:

You can also just use the URL of the image if you don't want to upload to a hosting site.

1. You do a Google search for anything you want, for this exercise I'll Google search for "Maynard James Keenan" the lead singer of Tool.

2. Ok so I did a search and you get a bunch of thumbnail images. Click on the one you want, then click the Full Size Image link and that will show you the image at it's full resolution.

3. Right click on the image and select the "copy image location"

Image

You should have a url copied to the clip board.

Like this
Code:
http://g8.undercoverhd.com/imgsresized/article/071003tool_2007_1.jpg

4. Then just select that entire address and click the IMG button on top. That will wrap your image location in IMG tags and you'll see the image. Like this
Code:
[img]http://g8.undercoverhd.com/imgsresized/article/071003tool_2007_1.jpg[/img]

where that code will give you this image.

Image

[Edit] Also I didn't know this, but this works on some of the thumbnails too. Where you would just right click on the thumbnail instead of the full size image. That's kind of cool if you only want a small image.

Like this
[img]http://tbn0.google.com/images?q=tbn:Kwg45_TROLHejM:http://savannahnow.com/images/cwhite/music/tool/maynardprayingmantis.jpg[/img]

Apparently the thumbnail images won't work here on IH, but they do on my forum so I'm not sure what the problem is. I will leave this here so if you want to try it on another forum you'll know how.

Well I hope that someone gets some good info out of this. So now that there is no excuse to not know how to post a pic, lets see a bunch of em. Laughing

When you get the url for your image you want to use, on some occasions they wont work and just the url shows up on the forum not the pic. This is usually because small sites where the image is hosted use anti hotlinking protection because they cannot afford the bandwidth (using img tags to put a pic on here is known as hotlinking) When this happens, the reason is, if you look at the url it has to end in a . file type, .jpg .png .gif etc, if it does not it wont work, you need to find a similar image or up it to photobucket or something.
