Good question, and to be honest, I haven't the faintest. Its one of those questions you cant really answer I guess, like the meaning of life etc. I reckon its probably a natural thing though... as a student of psychology hopefully in later days I'll be able to string together a better answer |

I think it's just another emotion that we have to tell us something. Like when you'r afraid, you are fed all of these emotions and your concentration shifts to survival mode. This is done automaticly, without having to think about it and without control. Why? In my opinion, the brain already knows what is life threatining, and when it recognizes it, it dosen't need our more social complex way of thinking to process this fear, it goes right to releasing the hormones (neurotransmitters) related with fear, and then the brain is induced with an electromagnetic currect related to the hormone, which bounces around in the fear controlled part of the brain. Just like any mind altering drug. They are neurotransmitters specific to inducing, or preventing electromagnetic reactions happening in the brain. These neurotransmitters alter the way we think, how we percieve, what we feel, or just about anything related to the brain. Some of this information could be wrong, I'm not much of a detail person, I say, do the research yourself.
So to me, what we feel, including love, is caused by neurotransmitters causeing specific electromagnetic activity inside our own electromagnetic fields... What does this mean? nothing really, you can't make a conclusion as to
what
is love from this. Only, what causes love, and how the emotion, love, comes to be. But, from a more educated guess, comming from a scientific outlook, you could say that love is an emotion, like all others, but unique all-the-same, that was 'created' to ensure reproduction and to make you do stupid things to protect what is worth 'love'. Just like fear was 'created' for survival, only fear is for yourself, and love is for others.
Again, I pleed you to do your own research. Starting here, http://www.earthpulse.com/health/cells.html , I thought this was very intresting. |

I think it can, and possibly will be in our life-times (at least us young-lings). The brain has only just became one of our top concernes, and the technology necessary to observe how it operates has only just been realized. We have learned so much, but just scraping the suface of what is comming. These are very interesting times for those of us who are willing enough to put aside preconcieved notions of thought and how we operate, and work from a clean slate of objectivity. But, that's the main thing we have to do. We need to observe the human body as an alien trying to figure out how we work, would. The lack of the nessecary technology needed to understand how we work has thrown us into a dark age of understanding how all biological life works. We are still in the biggest transitional period of understanding and how we live our lives that our species has ever seen (roughly starting in the 20th centery), and one of the biggest obsticles is 'preconcieved knowlage'.
"That's not how it's been for thousands of years! And change of ideas is bad, so lets just keep it the way it was, K?"
Let us look at the early stages in brain research, and those screams comming from the insane asylum up the road. All of the primitive drugs and shocking were kind of a trial and error type of procedure, and what did the public think about it? They were appalled, and seriously scared of the idea, but any of us could see why. This left us afraid of what will come next. Look at all the sci-fi storys that developed after these times, we were facinated with the idea, but afraid of what could come of it.
Look at all the credit psychology and hypnotism has gotten through-out the years! None! most people think it's just people willing to listen to your problems for hundreds on the hour, nothing more. Mostly in the older generations, and if you even mention "depression" or "learning disability" or "psychiatrict drug" to them, a roll of the eyes is all your ganna get.
What I guess I'm trying to say is, to try and keep an open mind on new sciences. This does not mean that you must throw away your faith, far from it, just remmeber that, anything is possible and that our preconcieved notions are from fallable human beings.
The bible is nice for spiritual enlightenment, but for intellectual enlightenment, only science is a safe bet |

Scientists have researched this topic and they have likend it to being adicted to cocane. When we meet people we smell their feromones. If they are a match for us (different from our own to create ofspring geneticaly diverse) our brain recieves those endomorphin thingys which make us feel verry happy (love!) the same also happens when you eat chocolate, but on a smaller scale.
sorry for the lack of detail, but i have to be somewhere other than here. |

You bring up a good point.

In the Swedish study, when sniffing a chemical from testosterone, the male hormone, portions of the brains involved in sexual activity were activated in gay men and straight women, but not in straight men, the researchers found....
The result clearly shows a biological involvement in sexual orientation, said Sandra Witelson, an expert on brain anatomy and sexual orientation at the Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine at McMaster University in Ontario, Canada.

(this is from msn.com, but I saw it on the daily show )
So, obviously, nothing about love is a choice. You are attracted to what you were made to be attracted to. This may be a difficult question but, why would god hate homosexuals if he knew that there were these genetic misplacements? |

people who say love has got to do with GOD, then I say that they're just looking for an easy explaination. it has been that for century's; things people can't explain are being related to god, so it makes sence.
that is what's going on with LOVE
i hope some people understand my point
