I just recently got vista, and I have to say so far I do not have anything bad to say about... As I said so far. But when I got the gadget for CPU usage / RAM usage, I became really curios what the normal usage for ram is... When I have no windoes open (just a couple things in the tray) the RAM usage is usually around 40-50%, when I am running the internet and watching movies, it goes up to about 70%... I have 1GB of RAM right now, but I will soon upgrade to 2GB. I was just wondering if those stats are normal / what are yours?
Thanks

1gig is not really good for vista you want 2 or more to get decent performance out of it, Ideally I would suggest 4 especially if you plan on playing games of any kind. |

Why is your max 2 gigs?
If your comp only has 2 slots, then why not add 2 x 2gig ram sticks? |

Its 4 gigs, but good luck getting that much. Vista takes 1.3 gigs up when you install 4 gigs.
No matter what I tried, I could not get the available RAM above 2.75 gigs |

Vista idles on about 900MB of my 2GB. When gaming it uses ~1700-1800MB.
I'll be getting 4GB or 6GB in the future. |

The sidebar itself is a memory hog, it is known for that. Stop using it and your memory usage will drop. Adding more RAM will not reduce the RAM that you are using, it just gives you better response. I agree with CF on 4 GBs, I wouldn't recommend you anything under 3 GB of DDR2 6400 though unless you just mosey around on your comp.
I have 8 GB of PC2-6400 @ 800 MHz ... ran me $98.99 before tax, as was said, not a big deal anymore. |
