Port Forwarding to speed up torrents

ok so this guide is going to tell you how to port forward your bittorrent client.

1. Open up your bittorrent client and open up the options/preferences.

2. Look for a tab called connection and write down the port used for incoming connections.

3. Click start>accessories>command prompt

4. Type "ipconfig /all" without the quotations

5. Find where it says default gateway and type it in your address bar of your internet. it should be something like 192.168.1.1

6. There will be a popup asking for your username and password. for most routers, its no username and the password: admin

7. Click on the tab applications and gaming

8. Click the sub tab port range forwarding

9. Type something like Torrent in the application box

10. Now take the port that you wrote down before and type it at the start
and end ports.

11. Go back to the command prompt and find your ip address and type it where it asks for your ip address.

12. Click enable

13. Save settings and have fun watching high speed downloads

Is it possible to do everything right and have it not affect your speed at all? Or is that itself an indication that it's not working? 'cause that's what I got.

Is it possible that by limiting the upload to 5 or 10, there's a better download rate, than when the upload is unlimited?

How can that be?

yes, limiting the upload to about 60% of your total upload speed will increase your download speed and it's because the upload speed won't choke your bandwidth that much.

after i got my default gateway i went to it and it said enter name/pass.
I did the whole no name, admin for pass and it said that was wrong. any idea on what might be wrong? i've been trying to port fwd my new laptop since i got it. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Most routers I have seen use admin for user and password.

I'd change them to my own , not a ton of security just leaving that set to admin. Cool

When i type my IP address it doesnt come up with what u hav described. there is no pop up asking 4 information. what is my problem? i hav 2 manually log on then wen im logged on there is no tab sayin application and gamin. Confused

it all depends on what kind of router u have. most of it should be in the documentation that came with it.
