I just read through this whole post and nobody mentioned Velvet Revolver .... Now I would love to see the ORIGINAL Guns and Roses but it aint gonna happen...... Being a guitarist one of my biggest influences is slash.... so my best band of the decade has gotta be VR.
I have gotta say Linkin Park are very smart, they do have the rock sound but they almost have the Rap sound too..... I do enjoy their music but they aint the best band..... Just seen their new video on 4music and it was number 25! C'mon The darkness' "I belive in a thing called love" went to number 2 in a matter of days! |

| Subject:Linkin Park best rock band of this decade? |
there are tonnes of better stuff than emo-rap-metal-hip-hop-electronic-newage-djing-record-scratching-guitar-abusing-loud obnoxious excuse for music...
alterbridge for example, then theres velvet revolver, there was audioslave, theres wolfmother...if you like blues/blues rock then john mayer delivered the goods with room for squares, heavier things and continuum...
when it comes to music of this decade, linkin park is probably the last thing that comes to my mind...sorry the only linkin park albums that i could listen to, was hybrid theory... |

I like rock for the most part. Linking Park for some reason I can't stand. They scream too much! |

I pray to God I don't ever again have to hear them attempting to cover a better band's song: N.I.N., Deftones, The Cure, etc. A maelstrom of misguided mis-instrumentation was the result; it often ended up sounding like an entire orchestra & all their instruments falling down a flight of stairs. With some added shouting. |

I loved them when they were new
but as I got more and more albums I noticed this

and it basically just made me realize the thing to do with this group was pick a favorite album and stick with it, because it's all basically the same. |
Yeah but you can do that with Elvis and AC/DC and Tupac and whoever else from whatever genre that made an impression on the world... |

No, just NO
For one thing Tool has done good stuff this decade - they also crunch more musical ideas into a song than Linkin Park have in there entire carrer. Linken Park is catchy pop music, nothing more.
To clarify, im not nominating tool, just an example. |

Ok, let a geezer weigh in here but, only because my kids inundate me with their music do I even come close to knowing what seems to be most popular here in middle America. I personally like several tunes from LP but, my kidz think several of the groups previously mentioned in this thread are much more influential and popular: System of a Down, Nickleback and Tool. I'm staying with Led Zeppelin 'cause they relax me. Cheers to all ! |

They are good and I own a couple of their albums on CD. But they arent the best. Red Hot Chilis and others are still releasing albums so they still count in this discussion. Here are a collection of bands I rate higher than Likin Park in no particular order:
Killswitch Engage
Bullet For My Valentine
Lost Prophets
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Evanescence
Within Temptation
Lacuna Coil
Dragonforce
Staind
System of a Down
Green Day
Good Charlotte
H.I.M
30 Seconds to Mars
My Chemical Romance
I can probably name a lot more but I need to take a dump. You get the idea though. Im assuming you mean Rock as an entirety and not a specific band. |
