I would send a copy of that letter to the place that sent. I would also place a sticky note on it asking when did Canada become subject to US laws? Considering you are signed up w/ Telus, I'm pretty sure you are not subject to US laws while residing in Canada. Now if you live in the US, that's a different statement. |

What ever happened awdracer? Did anymore happen other than Telus sending you the two warning messages?
Do you find that peerguardian works well? |

inspite of the fact that peer-gaurdian2 does block around what? 680 billion (yes BILLION) IPs, its certainly cannot stop every single government IP from connecting to your computer. however i still use it. It blocks many many IPs that i have not even the slightest idea who or what they are...
all i know is im glad that PG2 has stopped (for me [names changed just b/c i want to be somewhat safe...])
1. The See Aye Ayeee
2. Soh-knee
3. reekording companies
4. and many chai-knees companies
why these people are connecting to my computer is there business...and stopping them is mine
its actually kind of scary to watch it just block IP after IP after IP...
so D/L this porgram for shizzle...its most definitely worth it. |

Somewhat curious is this is a new scam of some kind similar to "your E-bay account has been accessed, please click on the link below...."
Call Telus and ask them ~ without giving your personal account number or info of course. |

Dudes thats the MPAA just dont reply to the message is by law that ur ISP has to send u that message but they are not going to shut down ur internet or anything. just dont reply to any of those messages. the MPAA is watching for the newest releases of movies or tv series episodes etc.. peerguardian is ok since it uses a proxy to give them another IP address instead of the real one if u noticed bittorrent clients can see the IPs from the peers and seeds. just be careful for what u download and block this IP address they are from MPAA
66.172.60.XXX, 66.177.58.XXX, 66.180.205.XXX, 209.204.61.XXX, 216.151.155.XXX

PG2 is incredible, you can't get around that fact.
To that end, here is my "standard post" regarding PG2 and associated topics.
You'll see I included Blackfox's end-topic link to a sticky topic, so you may or may not wish to simply lock the thread. Your choice, you're the mod.
=====
Here is how downloading works without PeerGuardian 2:
1.) You download a .torrent (fake or not) that uses an MPAA-sanctioned tracker.
2.) Upon connecting to download this .torrent, the MPAA-sanctioned tracker refers your connection to the MPAA.
3.) The referall is unhindered between your PC and the MPAA server, and the MPAA records your IP address as attempting to download illegal material.
4.) The MPAA proceeds to notify your ISP.
Here is how downloading works with PeerGuardian 2:
1.) You download a .torrent (fake or not) that uses an MPAA-sanctioned tracker.
2.) Upon connecting to download this .torrent, the MPAA-sanctioned tracker refers to your connection to the MPAA.
3.) PeerGuardian 2 STOPS this referral from your PC to the MPAA server, and the MPAA is not notified and you are allowed to continue on with your life.
BTW, PeerGuardian 2 is FREE. Downloading it through PhoenixLabs or uTorrent is PERFECTLY LEGAL. Have no fear!\
Unfortunately, there is no guaranteed, 100% way to download this type of material without detection. However, PG2 GREATLY decreases your chances of getting caught, and that is all we can hope to achieve right now.
====
As per the Digital Millenium Copyright Act, your activity on the internet is the responsibility of your ISP. However, your ISP is not going to bother monitoring your activity until it affects them. It's simply too great of an expense for them to do so. They're still making money off of your connection regardless of whether or not your activities are legal.
However, should you be detected by the MPAA, as per the DMCA, the MPAA sends a "notice of claim of copyright infringement" to your ISP, which your ISP then forwards via email to you. As per the DMCA, this forwarding of the notice removes your ISP from any and all liability. However, the MPAA is not one to follow up on a single offense, or even three, so I wouldn't worry. Just be sure to run PeerGuardian 2 every time you are downloading. The MPAA generally trusts that these "warnings" are enough to fright people into stopping their activities.
However, your ISP is also able to detect your activity, especially if you are flagged as an "over-active user" or a person downloading at over 50% of their bandwith for an extended period of time. So, in addition to running PeerGuardian 2 every time you are downloading, I would also limit the number of a.) active downloads and b.) total download speed to reduce your chances of being singled out for over-active use.
=====
There are technically four stages of detection:
1.) ISP Detection
- your ISP detects your activity via "over-active use", in which case they send you a "notice of copyright infringement" and threaten to suspend your services.
- the MPAA is not involved yet.
- the government is not involved yet.
2.) MPAA Detection
- the MPAA detects your activity via an MPAA-sanctioned tracker, in which case they send your ISP a "notice of copyright infringement" and your ISP sends you a "notice of claim of copyright infringement" and threaten to suspend your services and notify the MPAA of any further illegal actions.
- the government is not involved yet.
3.) Further Illegal Actions
- your ISP detects numerous offenses of copyright infringement, or receives additional "claims of copyright infringement" and notifies the MPAA of the further illegal actions.
- the MPAA is notified of the further illegal actions but decides not to take you to court.
- the government is STILL not involved yet.
4.) Court
- your ISP detects numerous offenses of copyright infringement, or receives additional "claims of copyright infringement" and notifies the MPAA of the further illegal actions.
- the MPAA is notified of the further illegal actions and decides to take you to court.
- the government is NOW involved... kill yourself now.
=====
For the record, the MPAA or other 3rd party companies only track your downloads, uploads, or internet traffic. The MPAA is NOT able to infiltrate your computer and sift through your files, especially if you have a router or firewall; only the CIA or another government organization has the power to do so, and that is not until Stage 4.
=====
The help guide for PG2 has already been posted. For additional help regarding the use of PG2, rather than an explanation of its usefullness, see http://www.isohunt.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=74319.
However, should PG2 prove too inconvenient for you to use, ProtoWall is also another solution. I have no personal experience with ProtoWall, but I have yet to hear a negative review of it.
Best of luck.

I do not consider myself a "pro" in any aspects of uTorrent, isoHunt, or generic torrent downloading, so should my comments here be PROVEN incorrect by SUBSTANTIAL evidence, I am fully prepared to admit I was wrong. However, that link is 100% pure isoHunt genius, so you can believe it completely.
Mods/Admins, send me a PM should copy/paste posting be deemed problematic. |

Well, that hasn't happened to me, and I hope it never happens; but something related to copyright infringement happened to me in You Tube... I was uploading the performances of the contestants of So You Think You Can Dance aired by FOX, and Dick Clark Productions took off lots of videos and afterwards, You Tube canceled my account due to COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT, I was so freakin' pissed off!!! Just because of that I will upload the torrent with the performances of the contestants. |

The reply looks to be in regards to the uploading of illegal material, so it's something you uploaded that they didn't like.
As for YouTube, they're cracking down right now on anything that could be considered copyright infringement. By the end of September it shouldn't be possible to find anything like that on YouTube. |

Same thing happened to me with Bell sympatico....the reason is that well my brother who is connected to my network...downloaded a torrent file with the firewall off. Also the file downloaded only 10mb and then did not work anymore. I think it was made for tracking....
The idea is that you have to keep your firewall on at all times. And before downloading torrents ... take a look at the files inside.
P.S.
same thing happened to my friend and they cut off his service...he called them and said that there was a problem with his service and they re-connected him... |
If you are downloading torrents then your port is open.......right through the firewall |

Personally, I'm looking forward the new .p2p thing that The Pirate Bay is working on. From what I hear, it's supposed to have some built-in protection from anti-piracy groups. |
