Greets everyone!
After spamming #isohunt for some time earlier this afternoon, jthm had the bright idea that I should post some of this here and create an audio production discussion, rather than firing off my packets into the IRC void. So here goes.
Ill start by asking... What audio production tools does everyone use? (well not everyone, but those inclined to make music!)
Do you run your stuff on Windows or MAC? What has your experience been like on your system? Stable? Glitchy? Smooth as silk?
I currently use:
(hardware) 3.8ghz P4+HT, 1gb DDR2, EMU 1212m DSP soundcard, M-Audio Radium49 midi keyboard/controller, Shure BETA 57a and MXL 990 mics, Alesis hardware multi-effect
(software) Cubase SX3 at the core, Reason3 and Live!(sometimes) as slaved plugins, Native Instruments - Absynth, Battery2, Reaktor5, FM7, Kontakt2, Elektrik Piano, Spektral Delay, AAS Lounge Lizard, ARP 2600, Arturia MiniMoog5, the Waves plugins, iZotope stuff, Waldorf Attack, and etc etc etc etc plugins!!!! Too many to list!
Oh yeah, and Ill put in a shameless little plug.
www.soundclick.com/milkmanismine
That the stuff Im cirrently working on. Unfinished, of course, like most things I start.
I love these little bits and pieces of code. I use them all almost every day. If anyone has any questions, answers, rants, raves, or just wants to tell me a thing or two about the inferior software I use (grin), hit me up!
I love talking about this stuff and I love to help people learn. Ive learned all I know thanks to friends and total strangers on the net. Ill pay it forward, you know what I mean?
Peace |

Come on, kids, what do you work on? Whats your style? I know you wanna talk about it! Everyone loves to talk about their rig, except of course those who dont know what a rig is, or why it works. |

Nice! Do you run into any random issues with Nuendo vs Reason? (or perhaps its Rewire, lol)
Ive used Nuendo a little myself, but find Cubase to encompass Nuendo plus some. Do you do a lot of live recordings? |

I've used Cubase X something... and Premier Pro 1.5 also audiocity or osmething... on a PC
with cubase everything f***s up and everything goes wrong and it takes 1000 years to fix everything back to how it was. however I prefer this program anyway cause its just great. technology always f***s up so hey.
premier pro... is allright though its mainly for movies... but its easy enough to use. theres another adobe thing i havnt used. im sure that one is easy aswell.
audiocity is CRAP!
I dont know the rest of the hardware.. it was mostly studio equipment. I never really paid attention to what it was... |

hardware:
dell 2.8 ghz
512 ram
audigy 2 sound card (i think)
i have guitars and bass and stuff so i guess that's hardware, i like to record those mic'd but sometimes if i'm lazy i will just plug in to the line-in.
software:
acid pro 5 (waitin on six)
-hypersonic mostly
adobe audition (cool edit was the shit)
I am more of a normal musician (of the non-electronic variety), but I've gotten in to electronic music recently.
What I usually like doing is creating a song in acid with bass and drums, then I will add guitar and replace the electronic bass with real bass. then I add vocals or whatever, but sometimes I just leave it instrumental.
I also have a standard tape 4-track, but I haven't used it too much....computer is so much easier!

im gonna sound liek a real retard asking this, btu what stuff is easy for a complete newbiw to muck around with songs. my mates lush at guitars and always sending me loads files of him playing and stuff, and i was wondering what i could use to like layer them up and kinda make it sound proper, maybe and little bit of beat or drums or somin... not like dnb tho, im more of an indie/britpop kid |

sounds like u want a Sequencer.
Hmm theres lots of good ones out there, all take some learning to master, so i mean for a newbie you could use....
Adobe Audition (small yet versitile and easy to learn)
Cubasis
ermmm not sure what else.. ive learnt on Cubase and Pro Logic which are proper tools just with added functionality to grow into...
Cake Walk sonar is good too and Pro Tools is the dogs..! there is other basic ones.. Sonic Foundry might do the job, but
Adobe Audition
might be a nice one to start of with i think |
