| What happened to the Metal Gear series? |
Metal Gear is one of my favorites...as is Socom all the Socom's were good but due to all the online cheater's, the gaming world is starting to suffer! |

In terms of
influence
, I have to throw-in
Dune
.
Dune, and Dune 2 in particular, were both forerunners of many games, and prompted other games in similar styles, some better, many not so good. |

i played and enjoyed the entire myst - riven series. i think this was a big development phase for sound, graphics and immersion play.
i've yet to find something that compares to it, everything is violent. |
I wish they still made point and click adventure games. |

Castle wolfenstien and doom were foremost in fps. No one can deny the command and conquer series including the renegade fps game and the new renegade-x. |

What, no Leisure Suit Larry? Old school games I remember and liked Drug Wars, Space Quest and/or Kings Quest. Next Duke Nukem, Wolfenstein, then Doom. For those that like Halo, which is made by Bungee Software, they released a game called Marathon in the mid 90's, which I believe is exactly what the Halo series was based on.
I think another game changer was the whole "Sims". I think they really started off the whole create your own world/city etc style game, early reality before reality was cool. I remember wasting a lot of time on that game as a kid. |

good one. i feel like some of those games like drug wars were just indie games with other influences. they may be responsible for games like gta, but i doubt it. king's quest is good. i actually just started playing 6 again. but i think that myst may have come before.
you guys are all coming up with ones i regret not posting. im wondering how full the other option would be at this point...sorry. |

What, no love for 8-bit Mega Man games ??? For me, that was my favourite franchise of all time, so much happy memories.... I think I beat Mega Man 2 at the tender age of 7-8 years old and I'd pop it in my NES anytime just to relive once again those memories... But the most influential in general gaming I think would be Mario, Zelda (for which I voted) and Street Fighter 2 (pacino said it was a beat em up (Final Fight, street of Rage), but he's wrong it's a fighting game ! ) I really miss that ''Golden Age of Gaming'' ... Now most of what we got nowadays are stupid Halo wannabe sci-fi shooters, sports and racing games, especially on Xbox consoles, that's one of the many reasons why I never owned one and never will...

Indeed it is, in fact I think that Snes may be the best consoles of all time and may be never detroned because of such masterpieces... Ebay is in fact calling me to buy it ! |

Of the ones listed I would have to go with Doom. It changed the way people looked at gaming. |
