Well since ISOHunt xdcc search is down for months now, I think that people should use other search engines, and I was wondering what people thing/use
Please choose and if you can also tell why you use what you use, and if you have a reason why you don't use one of the other ones then please also write about it Smile

Btw, some of them might not working right now and may bot get back at all.... Sad

Thanks Surprised

I for example voted for IRCKlipper because I think that it is the best. It gives more results than others and you can sort the data by amost any way. You can also change how the lines look alike (classic or compact).

I used to be packetnews fan long time ago Rolling Eyes

Ohh.. I forgot to add Gogloom... I'll add it right away of I can Shocked

Edit: Nope I can't add gogloom to the list... oh well. Embarassed

If I gotta vote then it will be for my search engine Wink

Glad to see you around frogy Laughing

This poll doesn't represent anything, cause 4 people voting is too little. This thread is not so popular I presume (Unlike the "What is your favorite xdcc script")..... I wonder why Question

When I think of it, the IRC forum isn't so active as well... maybe it is time to bring back isohunt IRC searching abilities

ircdig for sure!

Especially since the new design. It is definately the cleanest, fastest irc search engine around. ircspy and most of the rest are lame because they are way to bloated with crap, take way too long to load and have weak search results. ircklipper looks like a 12 year old designed it (no offense if the owner is here) and ircfrog i think is the exact same as ircklipper (possibly owned by the same person?).

Not sure if anyone noticed lately or not but IRCDIG, once one of the better search engines has gone to hell with their popups and popunders. They have gotten far too greedy. I'm staying as far from them as possible. I think that packetnews was the only viable option since mydownloader, XDCCz and ircfrog were all shut down as of just moments ago when I tried them. IRCSPY sucks ass as well because they changed their search engine to automatically delete certain words (i.e. "the") when you do a search. Therefore, when searching for an episode of The Unit you get a shitload of results for GUnit. They also love the popups and popunders.

LOL, what a jackass. First off I frequent IRCDIG regularly and they have zero popups. I have heard that they are planning on opening up the search engine to non-registered users and then having popups for anonymous users, but not for registered, logged in users. Hell, they only recently added google adsense ads to their site. Before this they had absolutely zero advertising (the only xdcc search engine to ever have that) Second, you talk shit about ircspy and ircdig because of the popups (that ircspy had and ircdig does not) and then you say packetnews is the best?

Only an idiot would say that because packetnews has the most popups, popunders, installers, etc. etc. etc. Even google has flagged packetnews as an unsafe site due to all the virus installers the site has. Talk about greedy. I am not sure what planet you are from, but to say the things you have can only mean one of two things. You are too stupid to ever be allowed to open your mouth again or you came here purposely trying to slenderize certain sites in order to promote others.

I've been using XDCCReport.com for months now, I like it. The rest of them have all gone down hill.

I love Packetnews, but XDCCReport has more stuff on it.

I'm still loyal to Packetnews, and IRCSpy, ever since the old days.

Hey all, just to be forthcoming if my nick was not a dead giveaway, I am the owner of ircdig. Just wanted to comment here on this thread and thank those who voted for ircdig. This post seems kind of pointless because it appears that only search engine owners have commented on their own search engines disguised as another person. Lets just be real for a second, the stats don't lie. I did a basic comparison between ircdig and xdccreport real quick since there was a mention of 'the rest of them have gone all down hill' compared to xdccreport. I think the following results will show just how not true this statement is:

mp3:
IRCDIG => 3489 results
XDCCReport => 1356 results

xvid:
IRCDIG => 19759 results
XDCCReport => 13549 results

divx:
IRCDIG => 783 results
XDCCReport => 507 results

dvd:
IRCDIG => 14410 results
XDCCResults => 12321 results

wii:
IRCDIG => 405 results
XDCCReport => 82 results

xbox:
IRCDIG => 165 results
XDCCReport => 138 results

I love that there are other search engines out there. The more the merrier, but lets not spread straight lies just to further promote our own search engines. No other site has ever been able to compete with the ircdig search spider and probably never will. The results above for ircdig reflect the number of results indexed in the last 72 hours because no packs are kept around longer than that and the numbers still beat all other search engines where most of them do not get rid of packs older than 72 hours.

When I first developed ircdig in 2005, the only options were ircspy, isohunt and packetnews. IRCSpy is now completely shut down, isohunt abandoned their irc search engine and packetnews reflects results similar to xdccreport above. Ever since xdccklipper shut down, tons of these cookie cutter sites have popped up that are based off of the spider source code used for xdccklipper. This is probably why none of them index as well as ircdig because ircklipper never indexed as well as ircdig.

Use the search engine you want to use for whatever reasons you want to use it, just be truthful as to why you like using it because if it was for pure results, then all should use ircdig! Smile

Well.... I am in no way affiliated with xdccreport.com, but I do enjoy their website better. I'm a member of ircdig.com as well but I never really use it even though it may have better stats.

The reason I stated "the rest of them have gone all down hill" is largely due to the ads. Packetnews used to be great, then the ads started appearing a few here and there and then whammo, popup ads and malware attempted installs, etc. I feel as though ircdig is becoming the same way. The lightbox type add on every single page is annoying and an ad for every five results drive me crazy. I understand that the website need to make a little money to continue operations, but the way the ads are displayed prevents me from using ircdig on a regular basis.

Thus why I like xdccreport better then ircdig, there are still ads, but not as many and definitely no popups/lightbox popups on every page.

Just my opinion.

I have zero popups or obstrusive ads whatsoever on ircdig.com. I am not sure what site you are visiting but it is not ircdig.com. I am not sure what a lightbox ad is but all I use is Google's adsense. I did have a hidden div display an affiliate ad to non-members but since you stated you were a member, I assume this is not the ad you are talking about but either way that ad is long gone anyway. If adsense is showing an ad that is annoying or obtrusive, then use the contact feature and tell me about it so I can block the advertiser. I too ran ircdig free of any single ad for a year and a half and relied solely on donations to keep the site going. Guess how many donations I received. Go ahead guess. That is right not a single one. Over that 18 month period I believe I had somewhere in the neighborhood of just over a million unique visitors and not a single one of them could bring themselves to donate anything. Now granted, running an irc search engine that helps people looking for free stuff is not the best business model for making money but this is not what I am trying to do. If I could just break even for 1 month, that would be amazing.

I guess we will wait and see how long the xdccreport guys can do it, wait they already have ads so I am not sure what your trying to say. Point is these sites cost lots of money to operate and I do try to recoup some of my own out of pocket costs for operating the site for 4 years now. I do not even come close to getting back half of what I spend each month and when I hear people like you bitch about the little amount of ads I do have, it makes me wonder why I continue to run the site at all. Notice how ALL xdcc search engines (except packetnews and ircdig) have come and gone? What happened to ircklipper? Oh that is right it went under because no one would donate or click the ads. ircspy, ircfrog, mydownloader, gone. As a matter of fact, this thread should probably be closed because every single search engine listed in this poll has closed except packetnews and ircdig. Not a single xdcc search engine out today has been around for longer than a year or so except ircdig and packetnews. Maybe packetnews makes enough to keep the site up but I do not. Bottom line is that xdccreport and every other one of them will eventually fall if they have to bare the costs themselves for any extended period of time. If you would like to see this happen to ircdig and packetnews as well, continue to do nothing but bitch about the free service that you get that takes you to the free software, movies, music, whatever that you are looking for.
