[quote"johnno23"]I am also a fan of the high end japanese work which equals Pixar or anyone else for that matter.
totally agree, even John Lasseter of Pixar helped bring several Studio Ghibli movies to the West, namely Spirited Away.

[quote"johnno23"]Ghost in the Machine
is that a new one or are you referring to Ghost in the Shell?

When was the last time you saw a grown person with Pixar merchandise.

Kung Fu Panda 2; I took my mom because she loves Pixar's, Dreamwork's and Disney's animated movies, nothing else. And I saw all the audience consists of parents with their little ones all enjoying, laughing, giggling; buying all the merchandise. Heck several parents were even wearing "Mantis" tees.

I understand that; that scenario changes from country to country. But my sister lives in Sydney and she told me that many of her colleagues bought toy story 3 merchandise.

When was the last time a fully grown mature minded adult walked into the toy section of a department store and bought a Buzz Lightyear doll, or a a Woody lunchbox fpr themselves, dunno bout you but where I come from you would get a kicking if you turned up for work with a Woody lunch box. Or when was the last time parents nagged themselves to go and get a happy meals a Mcrapples because of the Chimpmunk toys, thats what I mean by Merchandise, aimed at kids, made for kids.

makes sense seeing how not many adults wear clothing nor play with toys. only time i've ever seen a full grown adult with a toy is when they're collectors. for that kind of merchandise i wouldn't, but if it were a DVD or a download of a film from Pixar/Dreamworks/Studio Ghibli then i would certainly buy. i'm 25 and i LOVE Kung Fu Panda 2, nearly brought me to tears at one point.

OT i used to like McDonalds esp. their Monopoly sticker winnings. now i can't stand the stuff.

^^ "Up" first 10 minutes is one of the best things I've seen in any animation work..

Animation if done well (and pixar are imo the cream) is a blast. With animation one can do unreal stuff and make it real. If its CGI in a movie it all too often just looks fake or is something that is just illogical. Animation has the ability to break down logic and my personal hero for tripping out the mind on insane animation was Tex Avery. look up some of his work or look at the old Tom and Jerry that was penned by Avery and it is totally unreal and yet fantastic and funny.

Yeh true; I'd also like to add few things to that..

Let's take Pixar as an example. Pixar is like magic on screen. They have almost perfected the art of bringing emotions via the animated characters; I guess the main inspiration would be Studio Ghibili's movies; those movies started an era of grabbing the attention of matured audience. Hayao Miyazaki's magnificent contribution to the world of animation left a mark on many animation enthusiasts. Your emotions can't be touched more by any other movies compared to the movies by Miyazaki and Isao Takahata. " Grave of the fireflies " will drip droplets of internal tear in your emotion bowl and it even magnifies even after multiple viewings. On the other hand these movies are bunch of visually stunning philosophical gems which will live and breathe with you forever. Pixar's magic is based on mixture of Ghibli like philosophies and innocence and charming like Disney's.
I'd heavily recommend the documentary called " The Pixar Story (2007) " and after that watch the "Pixar Short stories pack. You'll understand the true depth of the sweat and blood been put into the recent animated movies.
It's wonderful how the new age is getting the same treats from these animation studios like the old era got from Disney. In the time of war, poverty and crime people always try hard to find some peace of mind. These movies give them more than that. For an example: My parents say that all these gory NEWS channels, people are on a killing rampage, on drugs, wars, there's nothing to see in those action packed movies because those are becoming real; "sometimes" we loathe the reality to get peace of mind. Then there comes these animated gems as healers of those bad realities. Even they loved the movie "The Smurfs" which sucked imo lol.

^^Looks like a 10 year old kid wrote all that.. Laughing Laughing
