Favourite Gaming Moment

I've seen several poll's for isohunt members favourite games or most played games and i've found that i disagree with almost everything i've read. Now because i'm always right that obviously means that you guys are all wrong:)

I'm not just here to tease you though, there is actually a serious point to this post. Wrong as you may be there has to be some reason that these games are so popular and i find myself curious as to why.

Personally my favourite game is The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time but my favourite gaming moment has nothing to do with that which made me think, why do we like the games we like? so i have two questions to pose to isohunt members.

the first is: What is your favourite gaming moment and is it from your favourite game?

the second is: If we combined all of our favourite gaming moments would that make the ultimate game?

duke nukem 3D story: ALIENS ABDUCTING STRIPPERS!!!! (released in the mid 90's if your wondering)

Seeing as I was addicted to the MMoRPG Dark Age of Camelot for six years(had a played time of 265 days the first year /faceplam) I'd have to say all of my nicesest (?) gaming memories are from DAoC.

It was the first MMoRPG that allowed for huge realm versus realm battles. 200 vs 200 wasn't unheard of at it's peak.

Playing a stealthing (hence invisible) infiltrator made that game soooo much fun. Every morning, I'd put on a pot of coffee then did a quick tour ingame before heading off to work, where I proceded to play for 8 hours (Yeah after 2 years they got on to it and fired me :p )

I was despided by the enemy... hell, the VNBoards had many a "I HATE ERULIN" thread on them. But in a PVP game being hated just means you are doing something right Smile

Why was I hated ? Guess the picture says it all :

There's two more corpses at the top but I couldn't frame the screen cap wide enough to fit the names in... so it was : Erulin 9 - Midgard Bastids 0 Very Happy

My favorite gaming moment was in Empire Earth (the first one) without using cheats so the pc opponent was massive, take your time, build up slow and creep towards him. Then build as many Nuke bombers as you could be bothered, along with helicopters and fighters mainly to distract his fighters and aa guns, and send them all into his base at once and just watch the nukes go off. Im talking like send in 100 bombers, he will shoot down 20 or so before they drop there bombs. The first 3 Resident Evils a probably my favorite games, so maybe just send the bombers into Raccoon City Laughing

I'd have to say mine was recently on Modern Warfare 2. On 1 of the Stimulus Pack maps Bailout, i threw a throwing knife from the spawn and nailed a guy who absolutely hates me haha he went mental calling me a hacker. Best part is i was recording at the time Smile

oh and 2 games before that i got 2 collaterals in 2 shots from the spawn on highrise, got that recorded 2. When i put em on youtube will put the link up Very Happy

Mine has definitely got to be from Knights of the Old Republic. When your main character suddenly get all his memory back and you go,"Oh shit, I'm Revan". Classic moment.

Mines probably not much of an impressive gaming moment but i was playing mw2, domination on karachi. The game started and i spawned on the side of point C, i then sprinted (marathon class) all the way round to the enemy teams spawn point and all of the team were still in the area around A, so i tac knifed them all, yes the whole team before anyone else got a kill. Then they respawned and killed me. Sad

Another moment from my first ever mw2 online game was when i picked up someones .44 magnum and got a head shot right across estate.

my best was just last week on mw2, ive only been on the game maybe 3 weeks and i had an amazing run of luck on team deathmatch playing favela, straight away got my 7 kill streak and got out the harriers, that got a few more, then was killed, after respawning i did exactly the same and got my 7 streak again , then after respawning got it all again Laughing

and then after the 3rd death decided to call in my 3 care packages one after another, i ended up with 3 sentry guns Shocked

i set them all up at the bottom corner at various angles and then ran away to hide for the last 2 minutes Laughing

end of match i had 34 kills and 3 deaths, and a few hate mail messages, (i just love these people that send hate mail) i dont think il get this much luck again

Wow great to see a variety of responses. so far it seems that our perfect game would have:

1. a ridiculously irreverent yet strangely right story
2. awesome god like powers
3. the underdog factor
4. keeps you guessing
5. apparently some human interaction... kind of strange for a game if you ask me but, alright.

moments 2 and 3 seem quite popular maybe we should have a poll...

i've never played modern warfare 2 (i didn't like the first one) but i certainly get the knife kills thing. it's reminiscent of quake 3 arena and the whole Humiliation! (incedently when the game shouted humiliation i found it more satisfying than actually getting the kill)

@trollster i've never played empire earth but i'd like to think that when the nukes go off theres some pretty special sound effects (if not in game then at least in you head). I'm imagining a deep boom as the bomb hits and puff of air from the sub-woofer hitting you in the face, then a sort of eruption like a volcano going off and then slowly fading with a hint of a static crackle towards the end (oh i suddenly feel the need for a cigarette)

that brings me nicely onto another of my gaming moments, from the quake series the grenade launcher and the sound it made. You'd click the mouse and hear a THUMP! like a spud cannon being shot then a TINK, TINK, TINK as the grenade bounced of the floor and walls. it didn't matter that the gun was mostly worthless in all the games, it was my favourite just for that noise. so for number six:

6. atmosphere and lots of it

oh and keep those moments coming, once we worked out a comprehensive list we can send it to some game dev's so they can see where they’re going wrong.

My favorite gaming moment was late one night during Tech school we were playing a network game of Doom 2 capture the flag.
All my teammates were getting ready to leave for home because the school was locking up. It started out as a 4 vs 4 game and ended up as a 4 on 1 game at this time.
Not only did I successfully defend my base but I also scored a point for myself. with only a double barrell shotgun and shields/extra health. I pwnt them all!.

Many moments in Crysis come to mind. Especially the beginning of snow levels.
