I assume u mean extract the nipfilter.dnt.gz file to nipfilter.dat file, rename it ipflter.dat and place it alongside the utorrent.exe file in the utorrent folder.
Otherwise, I haven't a clue how to "copy to %appdata%" as a folder superior to the utorrent folder. My utorrent folder is not within a %appdata% folder. Mine is C:/Program Files/uTorrent/ |

The folder being refered to is c:\documents and settings\username\local settings\application data\ which is a hidden system folder. |

Hmm there is a problem that no one seems to be mentioning - theft as you are downloading some people not only want everything free they boost their downloads by taking part of your download ( it's well documented) in utorrent go to peers and right click and tick the debug - there's a whole list here that you can play with see if that makes a difference when i first encountered aproblem this was the answer |

This is great! I had been having a hard time getting decent download speeds the past day or two and this seemed to fixed that immediately!
Too bad PG2 doesn't seem to support Vista, I'm about to try it out anyway.
edit: nevermind, doesn't claim to support Vista but it seems to work. |

Yes it does work on Vista there is even a way to get it to work on Vista x64 though is harder to get going. |

There was a news post that I lost the URL to, explaining why so many torrents are slowing down and such.
The gist of it follows:
| Quote: |
The MPAA and RIAA, as well as various other organizations are connecting to torrent trackers and are feeding bogus information to clients. this information is downloaded by the clients, but is discarded for not matching hashes.
This in turn slows down torrents because users do not get the required pieces, and can not seed them as well |
something like that
anyways, you can prevent this with the utorrent (
http://utorrent.com/
) client and this file
http://www.bluetack.co.uk/config/nipfilter.dat.gz
.
All you need to do is copy nipfilter.dat.gz to
%AppData%/utorrent/ipfilter.dat
then open utorrent, open preferences (ctrl + p) > advanced > set ipfilter.enable to true and click ok.
You're set after that.
This file blocks those IP addresses from connecting, which not only prevents you from downloading bogus data, but also (to an extent) stops them from watching your traffic.
a more realistic way to do this would be to move that file to your hosts file, but i haven't come up with a way to change that file to the right format (someone wanna do that for me? )
Edit:
This file is from
http://bluetack.co.uk
and they supposedly update it fairly often, so check back there sometime
Edit again:
Slap me if i shouldn't have stickied this. people were pm'ing me about it, figured it's actually useful *shrug* |
Maaad info yo! peace & head grease
u just need 2 register 1st guys & gals.
keep tha info free dude |

PG won't work either on my Vista 64 <_<
so i use ipfilter for µtorrent ! and better than downloading each time and extracting the file from bleutrack "ipfilter_v2" does all the work
search for ipfilter_v2 it' will make it alot easier |
