A note that I did an interview with CBC, the Canadian national public TV station. Don't know the exact date it'll be aired, I'm told it'll be around next Tuesday. It'll be a 3 min. or so segment on CBC's The National. If you want to see silly me on TV, tune in to CBC news, or watch the web stream on their website if you are not in Canada. I'll update on the exact date and time it'll air.

On the heels of the CMCC in talks with law makers in Canada, I'm glad CBC gave me the opportunity to voice our stance, what we do and why the MPAA is after us. Media distributions are converging and decentralizing at the same time on the internet, and it's an issue the general public should be aware of, many of which doesn't know what P2P or BitTorrent is yet. Instead of suing each other, we should be talking about how we can use internet technologies and new forms of communications made possible, to the benefit of us all.

UPDATE from the reporter:
Quote:
Yes, we're still on tonight. We'll have a quick 2-minute version on Canada Now on the main CBC network (Channel 3) at 6pm PDT and simultaneously at 6 on Newsworld, channel 26, we will have a longer version on The National, which is on the main network again at 10pm, both PDT and EDT.

So tune in tonight for those of us in Canada, or watch the Real Video stream on CBC's website. The video stream is updated daily at 11.30pm EDT, so the interview will be updated today after that time. Here's direct link to the video stream.

Unfortunately, I'm not sure if the video will be archived on CBC's website, so watch while it lasts for 1 day. I haven't seen it myself so I can't comment on how bad I am on the show. Rolling Eyes

UPDATE (8:43pm PDT)
The web stream is online with the interview. There's a lot of things cut, but a 5 minutes clip can only show so much. The web stream is 1 hour long, the interview starts at 26.5 minutes into it. It will be on TV respectively at 10:26pm EDT/PDT, on CBC channel 3.

For those new visitors who saw the interview and came here, welcome. The clip to casual viewers may have gave the impression of us as villains somewhat, as the new hotness for pirating movies. That's what Hollywood would like you to think. We are a search engine no different from the likes of Google and Yahoo, only specialized in P2P networks. What is shared on such networks is beyond our control, and we routinely work with various other copyright owners on link removal requests. Files shared on BitTorrent and other P2P networks are not exclusive to movies or video content, and MPAA's allegation that our service is for the sole purpose of helping copyright infringement of their movies is plainly wrong. So is John Malcolm's statement that I have "chosen not to enter into any negotiations with anybody, but rather to steal that creativity and to use it for [my] own ends in an unlawful manner". Somehow he doesn't think the letters I exchanged with MPAA last year count, nor does the hundreds of correspondence we have with other copyright owners. If you would like to find out more about our situation with the MPAA, here are some relevant discussions and links:

* Yes, the MPAA is suing us.
* Letters from MPAA (a year prior to the lawsuit)
* Our copyright policy
* How much is a TV episode download worth?

UPDATE (May 31)
Thanks to Terry and CBC News, here's a news story on their website, with transcript and archived video clip of the interview. Taking words out of movie cut scenes is quite funny and fitting, take a look if you haven't seen it.

Alternatively, if you can't play Real Video, the clip is found also on Youtube. You just need flash.
