It cost me £11 to see Tron, at a Vue cinema, one adult, no extra food or drink, on a Tue night at 20.10 and in 3D. Now does this seem expensive to anyone? my fellow Islanders I refer to of course.

They give you the 3D glasses auto but I'm not sure if you can actually pay for the film minus glasses charge cos its all inclusive. There is no advertisement to say its cheaper if you bring your own glasses.

This is a Vue cinema, dunno about others, if you get food and a drink your looking at around £15 - £20!! for a film!! I remember paying £3 for the Odeon when I was about 17-18. For £20 I could buy it and watch at home with all the food in the world and toilet breaks lol!

So I ask you...too much? do you care? do you think it should be more? should 3D equal more expensive tickets? food n drink costs?

I last visited the cinemas some time during 1995 and saw Pocahontas it was expensive then and it is now, the food, the drinks, the lack of toiletbreaks, the lack of my sofa, the lack of my girl ain't worth a larger screen combined with sticky floor.

I download everything and watch it at home with quite a decent media system, if the movie is great I buy it to support it, like Matrix and Avatar. However I don't even own a DVD/BlueRay player so I can't use the disks, well oki I got one in the computer but I have never used it.

I can't understand how going to the cinema can be romantic? Make some great food and cuddle with the girl in the sofa isnstead, much better and more romantic!

^ True, I saw 'Tron' just the other day cos I firmly believed that had to be a cinema trip for the classic look of course and cos I'm a fond 80's lover (the original)

Myself, I sometimes feel like I want to demand my time back from the movie industry for downloading a crap movie. I could never see myself going to a movie theatre or paying for a rental for the cost of my sanity. It costs me a $120.00 to go to the theatre with the wife, that includes the tickets, meals and babysitter. Thats half my groceries or even a fillup on my truck.I want my kids to learn they can go far on the money they have, not spend it on something they could get for free.

Ya its way too expensive really. Though it might not be half as bad paying if i didnt have to listen to people nearby chatting or on their phones, or some kid screaming! its not like you can rewind the fecking thing if you miss a bit. Thats what really does my head in about going to cinema, nevermind the outrageous prices.

So nothing beats watching a film in the comfort of your own home Wink

Last time i went to cinema was to watch the latest Star Trek last year. So i will go once in a blue moon, but very rarely indeed. Mostly i download, and if its something i really like i buy it on blueray/dvd.

While not a fellow islander, I was also appalled at the cost of my ticket on a Wednesday night when I went to see Tron: $14.

I asked about this once. They gave me a blank stare and mumbled a "no, we can't do anything..." A manager graciously gave me permission to reuse the glasses and not get a new pair - but I would still have to pay for a new pair.

As for food, I generally take a bag with a drink and a candy bar hidden inside to the places that say "No outside food or drink" - at least they haven't started searching people yet?

Myself and 3 kids at Tron, 60 quid inc basic munchies, few packs of MnM's and coke.

Very expensive, I tend to just go to the spectacular movies that you need a big screen for, or 3D, but the kids always have a desire to go see the next big kids movie, of which there seem to be an endless stream.

The 3D for me is the only draw, standard vision movies, well, I get the DVD instead and watch it at home, I guess thats why there are so many 3D movies now, to get people back into cinemas, instead of watching torrents.

When I go to the cinemas, I'll be going for 3D. And I don't care to support the movie and pay the ticket for it.

But the food and drinks are way to expensive, when you want to be satisfied the whole movie, you'll lose arround 20 euro's which is too much.

Especially if you have kids (I have none, but I can imagine it all adds up).
Normally I don't buy food or drinks, which makes it cheaper, but you might get thirsty or hungry :p

My biggest problem with going to the cinema isn't the price.

...it's... well the other people.

The price of the ticket I can handle, so long as they're comfy seats, somewhere around the back.
...but the food is a joke. Sure ye'd need to have a wedge in yer pocket to afford to eat the shite that they sell. Most of the time the popcorn is more like greasy hot salty air, like meself sometimes Shocked.
I also like to have a beer or six with a good flick and I miss the days when there was an interval, so ye could have a pee break and tell the noisy feckers that yer gonna burst them if they don't shut up, instead of causing a further disturbance by slapping them in the middle of the show! Though they were also the days before mobile phones AND t'interweb Shocked
All told, given my short fuse with noisy buggers and my propensity for slapping them, my dislike for an overpriced and calorifically challanged menu, my love of beer and pee breaks ... and pause and rewind buttons , I think I make a much better contribution to society in general by staying home and watching stuff on my telly!
