I'm hoping to get 100mb fibre optic broadband within the next couple of months so then I can post speeds quicker than sued's ! Well download speeds anyway, his upload speed just makes me dribble ......
Pay for the router ? Sheeesh that's harsh, my router was free, the whole installation was free ..... $100 dollars and you get capped at 175GB !! Blimey that's about what I pay for my broadband, tv and phone package, no broadband restrictions at all and I do get the advertised 50mb speed. |

Converted with the currency value of today:
Around € 25 x 8 for 8 lines with up to 100/100 with IP-Phone and Viasat Gold (TV) and mobile broadband included.
Also:
Around € 16 for one line with up to 28/5-8 (something) with IP-Phone and Viasat Gold (TV) and mobile broadband included.
So around € 220 for up to 828/808 Mbit/s.

ISP's i just think use P2P as an easy way out for not being able to deliver.
People buy a contract and many mobile phone users are also using the very same networks as the pc internet connection. Usage of mobile phones for data and video has helped increase the need for bandwidth. Whilst Apple touts face time as a new manner to communicate and other phone makers have similar options then our ability to connect and see each other needs bandwidth. As ISP's are often hitting maxxed out systems and people cannot get what they pay for then targeting P2P torrents etc is an easy manner in which to free up a little extra bandwidth.
If one reads the issues verizon were faced with and problems of having the bandwidth to deliver when they got the iphone contract (just one of many mobile devices) it was a mess. AT&T screwed up bigtime in the beginning.
Now I am not saying that mobile phones are the cause of internet capping but they sheer number of gigabytes of data being sent via these phones is on top of an already saturated maxxed system.
Basically they are using the law, illegal to share copyrighted material, as an excuse to temporarily bridge the gap of having sold contracts with out the infrastructure to deliver the goods.
Its gotten worse as now many ISP's shape traffic for areas as youtube. Whilst shaping can be beneficial if implemented correctly. No need to send HD quality to a device that cannot playback HD, too many ISP's just slow down the stream.
Myself youtube became blocked in China, but using a proxy i could still enjoy my visits to youtube. However these days i find the speeds to be so dammed slow I find trying to watch a film clip to be bloody infuriating.
In the rural district where I live when not working in Shanghai I have a great connection. I can hit download speeds of 2 MB per second. The reason is purely because the infrastructure is recently implemented and the number of people in the immediate vicinity connected/using it is low. however even with these speeds some sites are just very slow. I checked online if it was a China thing..... you know, snooping whatever but it is not. It appears that some sites are being targeted and capped as they have such high usage.
Of course if one raises the question the reply is always , no not true. |

You raise a valid point, however because P2P constantly uses bandwidth, it is difficult for some smaller ISP's to deliver. Others such as Comcast are just too lazy to upgrade their infrastructure. |
