[size=12]Any help on this will be greatly appreciated. I have installed Office 2007 with no problem, however, when I start one of the programs (Excel, Word,…) I get a window to popup saying, “Configuring Office 2007…” This configuration happens over and over and over again. It can take up to 5 minutes to complete this lunacy.
If I click the “X” in the upper right corner of this blue box it will ask if I want to stop configuring. I click yes and eventually it will stop, the blue box disappears and the program starts and runs perfectly.
I am running Windows 7 on a 64-bit laptop running a dual-core processor, 6 gig Ram. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks again.

Sounds like you have multiple versions of office installed, or used to have a version installed that has not been completely removed.
Try running below command by typing into command prompt or directly into Run:
reg add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word\Options /v NoReReg /t REG_DWORD /d 1
Failing that, easiest thing may well be to either try a repair, or else completely uninstall and reinstall office. some other suggestions below though.
could try:
| Quote: |
remove the shortcuts on the start menu and copy new ones from the Office 12 folder:
Go to the folder that contains all the Start Menu program shortcuts: C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs
Open the Microsoft Office folder and select all the Microsoft application shortcuts. Right click and delete. Leave this window open
Open the Microsoft Office folder on another window: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12
Select the .EXE icons for all the Office applications and right click. Select "copy"
Go to the open window with the Microsoft Office Start Menu foler. Right click and select "Paste Shortcut". If you desire, rename each shortcut. |
Below may work but may affect your ability to uninstall/repair so wouldnt recommend unless all else fails
| Quote: |
for x64 computers:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\microsoft shared\OFFICE12\Office Setup Controller
Next, simply rename SETUP.EXE. |
Few other fixes listed in below thread that may fix:

I ran "reg add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word\Options /v NoReReg /t REG_DWORD /d 1" with no results.
Next I deleted existing shortcuts and replaced them. No good there either.
When I went to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\microsoft shared\OFFICE12\Office Setup Controller " the file was already named "Setup.exe. I ran it and it asked if I wanted to repair, but it showed two versions of Office 2007; Enterprise & Pro. Enterprise is the installed version, Pro was uninstalled some time ago. Other than this reference to Pro I can not find any other trace of it. 3 uninstall programs can't find it, nor does any registry repair program remove traces of Pro. |

well if its a torrented version like trollster said you might be outta luck. Like i said you might just want to try uninstall the lot and reinstall and see if that gets you anywhere. There was a few other suggestions in that link i sent that might help.
other than that, you could use openoffice as LG and trollster suggests. I use it also myself on home laptop. Only use office in work. |

i really hope for your wallet sake that you didnt pay... what is it 400$ or so now for office? if you go to the openoffice.org site you can even get a torrented download from:
http://distribution.openoffice.org/p2p/
its better than the web FTP download cuz you can end up getting corrupted downloads if your connection sputters.
P2P is a very resilient distribution system in addition to the other things said about it. its rare that i download FTP anymore. |
