Hi!
I went to IH to day trying to re-download a torrent I had downloaded before and lost. I found that it is no longer possible to download from within your site and that I have to go to a third site I found my torrent there, but unfortunately, it seems next to impossible to download it with U Torrent, as I have always done: the download speed is now ridiculously slow ( down to 0.3 kbs in some case!) for the same type and source of materials I was previously downloading directly from IH at lightning speed.( insome cases 400/500 kbps !)
In addition, the trackers tab now shows in most cases that DHT, Local Peer Discovery and Peer Exchange are NOT ALLOWED. Why? What does it all mean? For your info, I have a proxy server (JonDo) integrated into my Firefox browser ( JonDoFox) and I never had problems downloading torrents.
The “Connection” tab in U Torrent preferences shows a HTTP Proxy server connection, called Localhost, on Port 4001, which is the same proxy configuration of my JonDoFox proxy browser. I thought to reconfigure U Torrent for direct NO PROXY connection, but I don’t know how. Besides, wouldn’t I lose my anonymity in downloading torrents, if I did so?
Anyway, why these problems with the site you direct to, now that it is no longer possible to download through IH? ? Is there a way out? IH was the best engine I ever knew, for the material I needed ( books and audio-visual educational material), which were hard to find with other search engines. Do I have to give up on the good old free torrents, or is there a way out? I really hope so ! Is there a way perhaps to better configure U Torrents ? Where can I find a free Torrent indexer site comparable to yours in terms of richness and variety of torrents?
Any comments or suggestions?
Thank you

use the options i already suggested.the file is on a private tracker from what you said and the only way for you to get that file is to become a member of the site using it.look for one that has seeds and is using public trackers.
if it's the DHT error use the links provided and get the file from a site it is actually at.
copy/paste a link to the files summary page and someone will check it out.until we know what file you are talking about it's rather hard to give advice. |

nice to see you took my advice on TBox, are being polite & not shouting
(caps locked) One thing I did notice is that your port number is incorrect,
I'm sure someone will be along shortly to help. |

The DHT, Local Peer Discovery and Peer Exchange are not allowed could mean that its a private torrent indexed from a private site this does happen sometimes..Your downloading will slow down if your using some sort of proxy in utorrent but not as much as you say lol that's really slow..The speeds could be slow if not many are seeding the torrent or the ones that are seeding have a slow connection.Even those torrent clients might not be configured right that are seeding..The only file you download from IH is the pointer file (.torrent file) so its not IHs fault what speeds you get or whats in the other files and isohunt does not have a tracker.. |

the best privacy option is rather than using a proxy in utorrent is to get
peer block designed by fear otaku, blocks anti peer2peer organizations etc,
the tazzzz is damn good on most utorrent related problems. |

Hi again!
1st, I have reconfigured U Torrent for direct ( no proxy) connection. No substantial change in the d/load speed as far as I can see. Do I have perhaps to reconfigure the browser, too, for direct connection? I thought that when you download torrents without having the browser opened, it wouldn’t be necessary to configure the browser as well for direct connection.
Below is some more precise information from the U Torrent interface showing the status of my throttled downloads, in the hope we can arrive at the right diagnosis and possibly a solution.
1. Ref. downloads showing DHT, Local Peer Discovery and Peer Exchange NOT ALLOWED ( Red arrow), there are two URL listed in the trackers tab.
http://toasted spam:80/announce.php : next to it, there is a “Status” heading showing “Tracker reply” and an UPDATE heading showing the time in secs for the tracker update
http://www.toasted spam:3210/000000.....( lots of zeros). Under the Status heading there is a caption saying” Failure: toasted spam Invalid password. Sign up now to download" .
But I have already signed up with Thegeeks! As a matter of fact, I am already logged in on their site and there is no problem with my password! This torrent shows 4 seeds, 1 peer ( 1 leecher).
BTW, what do the numbers 80 and 3210 in the above URL’s mean? If they are Port numbers, do I have to configure them elsewhere?
2. Ref. slow downloads: here DHT, Local Peer discovery and Peer Exchange are all working, however speeds are still low.
For one of these d/loads , for inst., the d/l speed is no longer 0.3 as I had reported earlier,( probably because I went direct connection instead of proxy in the U Torrent preferences) but it is nevertheless still very low, fluctuating from 6 kbs to 17 kbps, while the u/l speed up to 70 kbs. ( Seeds 4(6) Peers 9(2 ).
Trackers wise, out of 5 trackers, 3 show as working and 2 show NO CONNECTION. These are the Piratebay and I guess they are not working because TPB has been shut down. Note that I had already downloaded this very same torrent from within IH and the speed usually would be up to 400 kbs for most downloads.
Iamnephilim said quote copy/paste a link to the files summary page and someone will check it out.until we know what file you are talking about it's rather hard to give advice. Unquote.
Where is the file summary page?
Ref Kilo Juliet suggestion to use Peer Block for Bit Torrent privacy, rather than going proxy server: does Peer Block really protect privacy even when you are downloading torrents without having the browser open?
I already have Peer Guard installed. Is it the same? Maybe I should use it.
Thank you for your help

you must have peerblock running whilst downloading for it to work,
is it just me or you under the impression that you need to be logged in to
this site while downloading.... no you don't.... once you have the torrent file
in utorrent you don't need a browser open,
the port number used for downloading torrents is in your utorrent
preferences tab,
that explains a lot if you are being throttled by your ISP then your speeds
will be slow until the designated time that your ISP services return to
normal,
IE: my ISP throttles me but it suits me as I do most of my downloading at
night after 11.30pm so being throttled makes very little difference to me &
I go over my 80gb a month limit regularly. |

Sorry, but lol at kilo juliet for the mix up with peerblock & ipfilter
Anyways, most people use peerblock (I use it) But nothing is 100% but it helps keep you safe from antip2p groups... & also there's some good advice given to you mate |

The summary page is the link in your browser when yo are on the summary page, eg the link for this one is, http://ca.isohunt.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=676181&highlight=
A proxy will not help you with torrents, a proxy only confuddles your browser address.
Like said, you do not your your browser open to download torrents, just like you dont need it open for msn |
