I have used utorrent for a year or two, no problems using any version.
Suddenly it won't work.

It may have something to do with the fact that I recently switched to ATT DSL, but I have configured my router to accept utorrent according to the info here:
http://portforward.com/english/routers/ … orrent.htm

I read a thread that said something about maybe the name of the file or the folder the torrent was being directed to was too long, so I changed ithe directory for saving files to my C drive with a short folder name and that made no difference.

INFO:
When I open UTorrent it still has a torrent from the last successful use of it, and that torrent is active, being shared as an upload from my torrent.
So obviously there is an internet connection via Utorrent that is working...

I am using Firefox 5.0, Vista 64bit, and the only thing that has changed as far as I know is my dsl service and I am using a "2wire" 2701HGB router and I made the changes per the above article but it's still not working for me.

I also tried downloading a torrent with my AVG Firewall disabled but that also did not work. I don't think it's a firewall problem because AVG is very good at recognizing known programs and allowing them to do their thing.

NOTE:
When I tried to download the new Utorrent as I normally would, just clicking on it and downloading it via Windows to my hard drive, it would not work. I had to download it through Reget download helper . However I am able to download mp3's etc. as normal... Weird sh*t.... I don't know what is going on here....

If someone can help me I'd really appreciate it! I WANT MY BIT TORRENTS!!!

Oh, the UTorrent error message said this:
"unable to load "[file name of bittorrent]". The system cannot find the file specified."
(I tried several different torrents to make sure it wasn't just a bad torrent.)

That's the message from UTorrent. Then below that I got this message, apparently from Windows (?):
"
Accepted Launch.
Type: Auto
C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Temp\[bittorrent file name]
"
What's weird about that is that I am not saving files to my C drive at all, I am saving them to an external drive so I don't know what the C\Users folder has to do with anything ...

So what the heck is going on here??

Nevermind... I'd delete this but it may serve to help someone else who has the same symptoms..
This is what happened:
I had downloaded a new version of BitTorrent to try to fix the problem but it didn't fix it.

After all that I decided, "Maybe I should try restarting my computer..."
I restarted and now it works.

So which fixed it? the changes in my settings of the firewall of my 2Wire per the above link?
Or re-installing the UTorrent program?
Neither worked...

But then one or both of them did the trick after restarting... probably it was the changes in my Firewall settings of my 2Wire ATT modem via the link above... BUT I didn't know I had to restart to make it work...

unless you have intimate knowledge of the software or the changes you are making, its generally a good policy to restart/reboot the computer after such changes. The system registry has to be reloaded so that registry based changes will happen. New drivers, new programs, even new installs are not goof proof (not callin ya anything) so i reboot when i make big changes.
cheers man, good to see someone learning from experience instead of slamming the wall Laughing
