Looks like flash will be a thing of the past. Yay for HMTL5 and the open source community.

Adobe kills mobile Flash, giving Steve Jobs the last laugh
Focus in future will be on HTML5 as mobile world shifts towards non-proprietary open standards – and now questions will linger over use of Flash on desktop

Interesting HMTL5 is the future Microsofts silverlight might also be used more rather than flash..Imo silverlight is better quality than flash anyway..

about time too..... flash was inconsistent hogged resources slowed down the pc/mac and was about as useful as a pig in space. It was great in its day but never kept up as Adobe butchered it.
They purchased macromedia as a defense against competition and then shelved everything. Adobe also got pissed as macromedia gave all their previous software not owned under the purchase license away for free.
Flash along with AVI and a coupe of other items should be placed in the museum.

the anger was that ios was waiting for something that was little to not used at the time, and even now most sites do require flash, were it that html5 was already popularly used at the time i doubt there would be such a big disappointment with ios' lack of it

fact is when it was a macromedia app it was being improved and kept up to date. HTML 5 is the future but should be the present. Adobe sadly as many companies do is buy up the competition and then leave the app to rot.
The arguments used by jobs in his letter to adobe were pertinent. However the ios with or without flash are not an issue. The issue is that flash just like torrents by aXXo never seem to go away with any grace.
Avi is still by many regarded as the best thing since eden and too many sites have protocols embedded for flash that seldom work properly and those that do often take so long to load.
I know that the speed of a convoy is dictated by the speed of the slowest ship but if internet technology is to be dictated by the speed of the slowest users and their use of up to date software then we will still be drumming our fingers in another 5 years.
MKV is not new. H264 and HTML 5 are not new. They are well tested and are the new standards but just too many people only understand the on off switch and if the PC does not work they call a helpline where those on the phone are generally still a couple of years behind on todays tech.....
I only need to cross check the hundreds of members helped with video and see how often a simple link to the latest codecs and how to install them solves so many issues.
It amazes me that in forums as ours many of our members are running apps and software that confuses many of the helpdesk workers.
Flash has had limitations imposed for years and still a huge number of sites use it. I cannot believe it has anything to do with a cost factor but suspect it has more to do with IT in man areas that are just too damed lazy to implement the new and good stuff. probably spend 90% of their time still fixing secretaries printers.
