Hello forum,

What gives? Please someone tell me 1st why in the hell do ppl post rips with spanish or nl or ANY kind of subs at all? Why is that common practice?

2nd, how can you tell if it does or does not have subs. for instance:

Cars.2.2011.PROPER.720p.BluRay.x264-Japhson

Nothing in the title, description, comments...anything to tell you it has subs. PQ on this torrent will blow you away. Simply stunning, but its got English subtitles.....ruined.

I'm not deaf(no offense), nor do I speak spanish, or dutch(again, no offense).

Simple question. How can you tell without spending the bandwidth to find out?

Thanks to all

Read the "Summary" page, that torrent clearly shows it has subtitles. If you have downloaded subtitles and don't want them, turn them off ! Also, we don't all speak English so subtitles are needed ..........

How do I turn them off? Using VLC.

Thanks for your quick reply.

in VLC go to the video tab then subtitle track then disable. even easier if it has a separate srt file either uncheck it in your download programme before dl or delete the file (this cannot be performed if hardcoded)

basically rather than complain just take the time to learn to use your tools.most mkv that have the subs included with them can be disabled using the players options.

using the infohash for the file and checking other sites the files are at you can usually find release pages, uploader comments, user comments, screenshots, languages, etc and know what you are downloading before you ever click download.

I have been downloading torrents for a long time now but I have never known what all the extra stuff is that comes with the file.

I uncheck it all for security reasons.

.nfo
.srt....etc

nfo = info, contains information about the download that in the case of games and apps may be important.
srt = subtitles

not getting those these have nothing to do with security and more to do with paranoia.if you aren't sure about something use google that's what it's there for.

@afn09 thanks for your patient resposne. Just asking a ? no need for the usual snide comments by forum regulars to newcomers.
I thought a rip was a rip and you got what you got. Guess times have changed since the old limewire days.
Thanks, it worked.

Sorry, my bad. like I said I thought a rip was a rip. Didn't know things have advanced like they have. I thought the info was taken from IMDB or something. Just like a download page says "download" in 6 places but only one is the right one. Paranoia...I accept that. I just don't want my PC cluttered with crap. I don't get popups and I don't get viruses....for a reason. Some of these sites are littered with landmines. They prey on ppl that just click on the word "download" just because it says "download". Or "you don't have the codec to play this video" when you do. But mommy or timmy don't know better.

Thanks for all the replies.

Don't know where you've been downloading from but here at Isohunt its always as simple as clicking on "download .torrent"

Google results. Usually torrentz(eu). Gives a summary of all trackers.

no problem i was just trying to answer your original post about how to know before downloading a file.a lot of this has been around for a long time.the infohash is like a fingerprint and unique to the file.

http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_is_a_bit_torrent_info_hash

it can be used to find the file on whatever sites it has been released.the other is like i said google will give you info on pretty much anything under the sun and is how to get an answer if you're stumped.

lots of people do what you do (my brother is one) and only get something specific from a file (the movie) but if everyone were to do that the file could possibly become dead as no one will have 100%.the size of the other files is negligible to his monthly bandwidth and getting the entire file and seeding it back would ensure at least from his end that the file would stay alive.

sometimes an .nfo file will contain stuff from imdb but mostly it's release group type information.

here's some more you wish to check out

isohunt is an indexing site so you would never see this site listed as we have no tracker.
