that's right. use a feather duster, a vacuum cleaner, and a lightly dampened cloth. |

just built this to replace my nephews that was ruined in the fire.thought i had messed up the board, was updating bios and messing around with other stuff at the same time and brushed up against the power button and couldn't get anything but an error after that..learned later on like a day an half once i'd calmed down i just couldn't read.to fix it i needed to make my flash drive FAT32,somehow i missed the great big letters
COOLER MASTER HAF 932 Advanced Blue Edition
Thermaltake Black Widow W0319RU 850W ATX 12V v2.3
LITE-ON Black 12X BD-ROM 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-ROM SATA Internal Internal 12X Blu-ray Combo Model ihes112-04 - OEM
AMD FX-8120 Zambezi 3.1GHz Socket AM3+ 125W Eight-Core Desktop Processor FD8120FRGUBOX
ASUS Sabertooth 990FX AM3+ AMD 990FX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard with UEFI BIOS
MSI R6850 Cyclone PE Radeon HD 6850 1GB
Seagate Barracuda ST1000DM003 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive
CORSAIR Vengeance 16GB (4 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)
pretty impressed with it so far and it runs silky smooth and quite cool.don't care for the box in that it has no filters for the intake fans though.it's the one he thought was cool and he's the one that's going to clean it. |

Go as fast as possible and get an SSD because HDD really bottleneck the PC |

i've gotten some coupon things and seen some sales that were tempting but they still haven't come down enough to get me to buy one or maybe two (for raid0). |

I'm running 2 ssd's in raid1 I think , anyway striped is what i set it at. what I got going on is 2 32gb drives and now shows as 64gb. The drives are not the same, and 1 is a bit faster, but still has been working for the last week that I've been testing this setup. My samsung drive scores a 7.2 on a fresh install. The other drive a patriot scores a 6.9 on a fresh install. Now combined in raid I score a 7.4 not that big of an improvement but the performance doesn't drop near so much when you start to get them full. I have this setup currently 40% full and still getting 7.4 on the WEI rating. Those drives running separate will each drop 2-3 points when they get close to half full. I dont know that I will keep the current setup or not, just wanted to see for shits and giggles what ssd drives in raid would be like. |

So raid0, also keep in mind those numbers from microsoft are completely meaningless. I dont see how you can consider double the speed "not much difference" All those numbers are for is to get you to upgrade when its not needed. |

Always making me double check my work. and as usual I stand corrected. As you can see in second image sequential writes did double.
Single SSD
Raid0 SSD

Im no stranger ro raid hehe, though for what i do raid1 is used - no performance increase - 2 mirrored drives. Either drive can fail without worry. My main server uses raid5 w/ hotspare. So 3 drives in raid 5 giving the space of 2 drives - any 1 drive can fail without data loss. If 1 drive fails the hot spare will automatically take over.
other popular configurations are raid 1+0 and raid 0+1, both giving the benifits of raid 1 and 0, but requires 4 drives. I went raid 5 as i only had 4 drives and wanted the extra redundancy of a hot spare. If i had 5 drives i would go raid 0+1 probably. |
