I thought I'd start a poll. Although I have seen numerous threads here about which client one may prefer, I am concerned with just uTorrent's versions. I use different clients for different things, but have used uTorrent 2.2.1 as my default client for sometime now. My primary reason is old school... "if it ain't broke, don't fix it", and I wanted a lean and functional BT client...
and a BT client only
.
So... If you don't mind... Which version do you prefer? And why? |

This actually prompted me to check my version which I have never done. Found out I am using 1.0.2 ! Am I missing out on any major or cool features using such an old version ? |

yeah which version has nothing really to do with speeds, you're bandwidth determines that.just run the set up guide and make a few tweaks from there and you'll max out your bandwidth on files that are capable of doing so. |

From utorrent website..
"By default the latest uTorrent release is configured to use the DivX web player to stream video. This works well for most files but for us it caused problems with some video formats. Changing it to VLC or any other media player is relatively easy though, by nominating a different streaming player in uTorrent’s preferences."
I have not tried it yet myself though, although I am mighty curious now LOL
Edit
Works fine here |

I guess that is one of the reasons I started this poll/thread. Is that while integrating this feature into uTorrent is cool... VLC as a standalone has always been able to read/play partial video or audio torrent files... It's just not misnamed "streaming" as uTorrent has labeled it in ver 3.x. By its nature... a torrent is not downloaded by a first to last priority. (Except you can tell it to load the first mb and the last mb of a file).
It just seems that the newer versions are getting bloated. My 2 cents... |

i have tried the stream with the first and last mb setting changed to true and have vlc as default. but it seems to only play when all the torrent is down. i thought this new feature was supposed to stream what is downloaded already? havnt read up on it yet |

Well... I have yet to try 3.0, but what I do with 2.2.1 is in the preferences/general area, I have "append .!ut to incomplete files" unchecked. That way the file is appended with its intended suffix... like .avi. This way VLC recognizes an .avi... where as it will not recognize a .!ut |

a lot of players will play partial files but it's best to wait til they are complete (if you know what you're doing as far as a partial file goes it can be great for checking fakes).basically you don't have the file and whatever was last in the player will be played frequently.
gom will usually start up first with the least amount downloaded most often for me,but VLC and MPC will also play them and the amount needed.it seems to vary with the download, one maybe able to check for fakes earlier than another.
i think tazzzz already started one of these is it really needed type threads. |
