I'm not sure what the laws are where your from but here in Canada we've interdouced a new policy that muslim women have to remove there burkas (veils) in order to become Canadian citizens. Do you agree or not?? Personally I always thought they should have to take it off while driving because too many times I've seen muslim ladies driving up the wrong side of the road, hitting parked cars in malls as well as rear ending people while driving. I'm no rasist but one it comes to the safety of the other people around you most defiantly I believe religion should be put to the side if you expect to come here to build a better life, it can be down without hurting others. Other than that I feel they should be able to do as they please.
Whats your thoughts? |

I remember when the
Shah
were in power. They had this new law whereas all women had to take of their
hijabs
. Those women were persecuted and beaten just so Iran could be more Western. no one should be put in the position where you had to choose between citizenship and taking off a piece of clothing just to satisfy the neediness of the few.
I know it's not exactly the same as a
burka
, but my point gets across nonetheless. |

I think that if you choose to live in another country, then you choose to live by their rules, whether you agree with them or not. No one can tell you what to do in your own house, but publicly, you have to abide by whats legally enforced. |

There are always stories in the UK of british muslims being denied planning permission to build mosques. Notably there is a large asian community in Birmingham, and there is a local council been opposing a mosque being built for over ten years, i think its somewhere near dudley.
Im not against any religion or culture at all, but the point they are missing is pretty much summed up nicely by scotty's point.
I mean, if we tried to build a church over in karachi or islamabad, im sure their govt would kick off... |

Yep, i totally agree with all the comments above.... This isn't a rascist issue, england should do that law here, they have done that in france!!! Not that i go to derby city centre a lot (Near where i live) But i've seen Muslim women going into banks with there burka's on... Could easily be a bloke under there & rob the bank!!! I know it seems stupid lol, but it could be eh... So yeah, i'm up for the "BAN THE BURKA" in public.. & abide by the laws of your country, as said we couldn't do just what we want if we lived in there islamic country!!! We'd be beheaded |

actually there IS a
church
in Pakistan. Now, how many of you find the mistreatment of Christians in Pakistan deplorable? Their rights abused and their religious beliefs trodden on all because they had a different religion and didn't fit in with the laws created by Muslims. please do not criticize me for being anti anything. this is my opinion im letting be heard.

well dizo, you have there. it's true some of these women should at least open up whilst driving. and if they feel their privacy is being invaded, i'm sure they can get tinted windows [considering if it is legal to have tinted windows, but that's a whole different conversation].

No it is not. My opinion is that any who enter areas where security is of importance must be visibly recognizable. I cannot go to airports banks public offices etc wearing anything that masks my identity. That is all.

i'm for the ban myself!! we should not cover our faces !! and yes its not a complete comparison but a helmet covers your face!! i do believe the laws the law and if you go into another country you should stick to it!! in the united kingdom we have ban'd knives yet certain religions have a ceremonial knife/dagger they say they have to wear which when i was in leicester look'd like a 9 inch dagger!!! is that ok then?? should countries where they are allowed guns walk freely here with one too?? rules are rules or dont go to those places if you do not want to abide by them!!!! |

Thanks for your post killa1986. I honestly didnt know there was a church in pakistan, i was just using the concept to illustrate my point. Just shows we can learn from everybody
And i think Johnno's comparison is bang on, as a burkha and a crash helmet both obscure the face |

you know there are many laws it the US that take away their rights [i.e. Patriot Act], why not tell them if they don't like it they can leave. or the Christian population in Pakistan that if they do not want to be mistreated by uneven laws that they should go elsewhere? the problems with laws are they are not always fair to the rights of people. there are points that all of you have made which make sense, but you don't seem to see the whole picture is what im saying. |

Its the same arguement in reverse. Christian communities living in pakistan would be expected to follow the rules of the country they live in as well. Which i agree with. If i visit a different country, i follow their rules, because if i dont there are consequences. The same is true for all countries. All over the world. Surely there is no bigger picture than that? |
