I installed the Razer 1911 skyrim release fine on my laptop and even did the update and its working perfectly. I then put it on an external drive and connected it to my desktop and tried to install it and it stops at about skyrim - meshes.bsa with the error
"Error unpacking! Make sure you are using the correct decryption key".
On the net many people are getting this same error but I have not seen anyone with a solution yet and the problem is they post in a torrent thread or a weird comment system and their issue gets flooded with all the other issues people are having. I was hoping making a thread would make things easier.
Any ideas how to fix this? I would appreciate it. Thank you! |

you must have a snazzy laptop to be running skyrim!
the external drive problem seems to be common, and has many different ways of happening. If your lap runs skyrim, im gonna assume it has USB 3.0
what brand of external HD are you using, or is it a USB stick?
what video does your laptop have? GPUs are often used for encryption/decryption tasks, but a problem with runtime decryption can have a few causes depending on the engineering of the software. It could be a registry mismatch. did you install to the ext HD or move it there?
More info regarding your system and hardware, as well as your procedure would be good. if your using a crack version, all bets are off! dont expect to run a game like this under a crack and not end up being disabled.
no one here will help you with crack issues as this is not a crack site |

run the installer on the desktop.it installs to the folder pretty much so probably won't run from an external.i never try that actually because all i ever see are people that think they can and can't so don't waste my time trying even if it were to work i always install a game to the machine. |

Guys I figured out what happened. The files actually got corrupted somehow when I transferred to my external drive (1.5 TB hdd). I re-downloaded a fresh copy to my desktop and it worked perfectly.
I knew it was corrupted because i got corruption errors with 2 other games I tried to transfer to my external. |

IMO this game should have been held up a while before final release, there are a lot of serious bugs in it, but i guess thats what the updates are for.
so you installed it to your drive thats good. just for future reference there two types of programs -installable, and portable. the portable type is the one that you can move from drive to drive no problem, as it doesnt have registry dependencies like installable programs do.
Cheers man Game On, i have a feeling your going to be very busy now,
but thanks for updating the post |

I don't quite understand why you would say that future reference. I basially was trying to install the game off my external drive and thus it would then be on my local drive on my desktop. What does that have to do with 'portable' programs?
Thanks for the post though. Ya this game is incredible. I am definitely buying it on steam.
Probably won't play much now since I am busy with studies but it was really nice to see the first 20 mins of it or so. It is a legendary game. |

what im saying is that portable programs are the only ones that you expect to move from drive to drive without having to hunt down folders, system files and registries, and mod them manually. the setup.exe (or equivalent) of an installable usually does this automatically but often has certain expectations coded into it by the programmer. Thats where the corruption comes from. for future reference means if you ever see a program that comes in portable or installable, and yo want to transfer it around from drive to drive or machine to machine, the portable version is the better choice for that. |

Ok, I think I was ok though because I was transferred the game ISOs (portable files) rather than the actual directory with a setup.exe. |

USB ports dont have all the same capabilities as a SATA port, thats what screws things up. |

Well that would agree with the result I have been having in terms of using another usb stick to transfer the game and getting the same corruption.
But surely people do use usb drives to transfer games to different computers without issue? I have done so in the past. |

this game was probably engineered with the assumption it would be installed on the main drive over the SATA port, and probably uses some proprietary features of the SATA port that USB is not capable of. the game has bugs, and i think bethesda figured they would have patch updates written by the time they became widely obvious in gameplay. some bugs include things like getting locked into item transfer modes, or locked into selection modes for actions but not being able to actually select anything, and get back into playing. when games of this complexity are made they have issues that cant possibly be predicted. simpler games that are not as cutting edge usually dont go any where near the red line for the hardware platform, and system software, so you dont get the bus mangling of code that you where getting. there are 4? updates i believe that have been released so far, so if you dont already know, youll probably need to get them too |

Something else very strange is going on here. I tried to copy the files on a usb stick and I got the same error and this is not just 1 game it was several games. All of them had an error. I tried to burn the files to a new disc and put the disc in my desktop and copy the files over and there is an error that prevents it from copying all the way (error from reading source disc). What the heck is going on here? |

when was the last time you did a USB transfer and it all worked fine?
there could be some residue in system memory. and it could be worse.
do a virus scan first..and if it comes up clean then reboot.
i wouldnt reboot right away with out making sure your ok.
i dont know exactly what you have done over there but recall if can anything what you did or site you went to that could have been bad. and sleuth from there. sometimes when you reboot and you have a virus loaded in memory it takes root really bad and its more work. |

I can transfer regular files via usb just fine even right now. Virus scan is negative.
One factor I thought of, is that I have been BSODing a lot lately, kernel_data_inpage_error or irql_less_or_not error, and I think its because I have 2 bad sticks of ram (came up with a lot of errors on memtest). Do you think bad ram could be causing corruption?
I didn't want to take out the ram yet because I wanted to test some game performance and dropping from 8 to 4 gb might hurt my frames.
Also 1 of the files that I tried to install on my desktop that gave corruption errors I then tried to install back on my laptop and got the same corruption error so I thought it was an issue with the file and not the ram (since the ram on my laptop is fine). |

bad ram is definately a problem!!, get it replaced right away you could end up currupting your system, and/or mangling your data! id reccomend not using your machine untill you get it resolved. and i hope you have backups for your system |
