not that im recommending it for you but, considering james hotwire... i use my PSU to suport auxilliary components and peripherals. using HDD power connectors and some shade tree soldering, i supply the computer proper, and my desktop speaker amplifiers, as well as my external drives, what did that do for me? i had about 50 pounds of wall wart transformers and power bars under my bench getting kicked around, and now they are gone!
... so back at nemokhan, if you keep your old PSU, and feel adventurous, it makes a nice multi level DC power supply. |
Lol well i'd run quite the risk of electrocution, but what the heck. I'll look up some do-it-yourself tutorials and see if i can put that old PSU to some good use. |

Been doing a bit of review-reading on Amazon where the 6670 is selling for $100, and according to quite a few people, it runs just fine on 1 monitor and a 280W PSU. In that case, I may just hold off on the PSU, instead grabbing 4 GBs of RAM to put in the right-side dual-channel slots, and then a DVI cable because it has no VGA input. That should save me about $50.
EDIT:
Many apologies, just seems easier if you can read things in chronological order. The last thing i want is to overtax the PSU i have, which has never given me any trouble but is already like 8 years old. In that case I'll either go with the Corsair or the Silverstone, but most likely the Corsair because in recent reviews, it's been doing well.
I'll ramp up my RAM 3 GBs by getting 2x2GB DDR2, as i'm not sure if my motherboard can accomodate DDR3. And if it comes with a DVI-VGA converter, great!
I'll definitely buy it off of Newegg if i can save a cool $20, and i should then be able to keep expenses to approx. $150, which isn't bad at all. Just to confirm, as there seem to be several models of the 6670, this is the one i want, correct?

you are going to end up getting banned if you don't start editing your post to add more info and stop double posting.
you don't need a cable it comes with an adapter.i only used the hdmi since the pc was plugged into the tv.
the card is going to be 20US cheaper from newegg due to the mail in rebate.
for the ram you could get 4x1GB or 2x2GB ram.
you can do as you wish but don't be overly surprised if it crashes when trying to play a game without enough power or runs really hot since you will be overtaxing the one you have.if you've never changed it from the original it's likely already running hot, most PSU that come with store bought pc's are poor quality to begin with. |
