If your packing lots of ram, and never using it, you can use this free program below to make a 4gb ram drive. It works in windows 7 64, and if you want it can be set to save to disk and reload at boot. They have a 4 gb limit on the free version, registered $14.99 you can make it as big as you got ram for. I'm going to play a bit more with it and likely will pay for it as the performance increase is pretty massive. Below is my benchmarks, first one is running passmark on my ssd drive and the second is the exact same configuration but ran passmark on the ram drive.

Now I know some of ya are thinking what good is 4gb going to do. Mostly I'm using the tricks in this guide (second link), The paid version should really make tasks like encoding movies go a good deal faster.

Edit: ya got to scroll down to page 3 for the info related to the ram disk.

The link doesn't include information for relocating the cache for Google Chrome, so here it is:
You have to modify the shortcut:
  1. Close all open Chrome tabs and windows
  2. Right click your Chrome shortcut (the one you use to open the browser), select Properties
  3. In the Target window, move your cursor to the end of the path, after chrome.exe
  4. Type --disk-cache-dir="E:\BrowserCache" (it might be D: or F: or...) Make sure there is no trailing slash
  5. Click OK
  6. Click the shortcut to launch Chrome

Not so bad imouse, I've only recently got a new pc but my Dell P4 3ghz with 2gb ram served me well for 2 years and is still going now (although it hardly gets used now).

I have 16gb ram but as this thread is way over my head I shall just say I've no idea why it came with so much ram? I have managed (trust me I threw everything I could think of at it)to get it to use 5gb (just) and thats it? Shocked It usually hovers between 2-3gb running windows 7 64 bit on everyday stuff us isohunters do. Wink

I just bought new RAM imouse so your welcome to my old ones. they aren't great but I'm sure you can do something with them, they are 2x2GB DDR2 800MHZ. I'll be happy to mail them to you as soon as I have put the new ones in, there is nothing wrong with them.

I bought the license, looks pretty universal as it's named universal.lic Smile , so anyway I made a torrent of the installer and the license. If you already got the program, all ya need to do is put the .lic file into the installed directory to unlock the 4GB limit. Been awhile since I uploaded a torrent, and in the US it's a pain to upload here, so anyway you can get it from the link below, or wait a bit and it will be indexed here.

Sounds like minimal gains for an extremely high cost to me, ram may have come down in price, but its still way more expensive than SSD. So unless you get around 5x the speed of SSD this seems a waste to me.

I got 24GB for $100 gskill ripjaws 1333mhz brand new, far as the speed improvement, it's more than 10x faster. Look at the numbers off to the side second to last collum on my benchmarks. Thats the drive benchmark.
