I've been reading articles about TPB planning to remove the .torrent download option and only allowing magnet links downloads and that they are using DHT/PEX with the magnet links in order to not use trackers. Is isoHunt looking to follow suit anytime soon? Wondering if trackers are on their way to becoming obsolete...

Also, I'm using an old version of the Transmission client that doesn't support DHT. Need advice on a new client to use that does support magnet links and DHT and supports them well.

How old are those articles? TPB abandoned trackers a long time ago. Some Isohunt releases use magnet links but that is down to the uploader. Most decent clients support magnet links, Deluge and uTorrent are two I can name off the top of my head. Google is your friend for that last one.

You can still use trackers with magnet links.
So trackers are not necessary obsoleted.

i think they just changed their location on the page recently to be the default,i think some didn't realize they were there prior to that.

So true if you look at some large magnet links is shows you the announce urls..

Some large magnet links look like this
Code:
magnet:?xt=urn:btih:640fe84c613c17f663551d218689a64e8aebeabe&dn=slackware-12.2-dvd-iso&tr=http%3A%2F%2Ftracker.istole.it%2Fannounce&tr=http%3A%2F%2Ftracker.publicbt.com%2Fannounce&tr=udp%3A%2F%2Ftracker.openbittorrent.com%3A80%2Fannounce&tr=http%3A%2F%2Ftracker.1337x.org%2Fannounce&tr=http%3A%2F%2Ftracker.torrentbay.to%3A6969%2Fannounce&tr=http%3A%2F%2Ftracker.hdcmct.com%3A2710%2Fannounce&tr=http%3A%2F%2Fphp.hdcmct.com%3A2710%2Fannounce&tr=http%3A%2F%2Fexodus.desync.com%2Fannounce&tr=http%3A%2F%2Ftracker.ipv6tracker.org%2Fannounce&tr=http%3A%2F%2Ftracker.kamyu.net%2Fannounce&tr=http%3A%2F%2Ftracker.novalayer.org%3A6969%2Fannounce&tr=http%3A%2F%2Fbt.e-burg.org%3A2710%2Fannounce&tr=http%3A%2F%2Fcpleft.com%3A2710%2Fannounce&tr=http%3A%2F%2Ftracker.torrent.to%3A2710%2Fannounce&tr=http%3A%2F%2Ftracker.hdbbt.com%3A6969%2Fannounce&tr=http%3A%2F%2Fp2p.lineage2.com.cn%3A6969%2Fannounce&tr=http%3A%2F%2Fnemesis.1337x.org%2Fannounce&tr=http%3A%2F%2Fipv6.tracker.harry.lu%2Fannounce&tr=http%3A%2F%2Fsline.net%3A2710%2Fannounce&tr=http%3A%2F%2Fthefiles.ro%2Fannounce

short one

Code:
magnet:?xt=urn:btih:640fe84c613c17f663551d218689a64e8aebeabe&dn=slackware-12.2-dvd-iso

You can still download a .torrent from TPB but apparently they are just going to make it magnet links and do away with .torrents files all together..
Can you post a torrent with no trackers on it ?
Imo you still need a good couple trackers to make it healthy to start of with.

Magnetizer 1.50 will convert your torrents into magnet links

Move down the page in this link to get it lol

transmission is a mac program that was recently made cross-platform to windows, so if you have an old version, you probably use a mac. if you do i would recommend uTorrent Mac. its better than even the newest versions of transmission for mac.
