I have downloaded some TV programs because it is easier for me to download them sometimes as I'm not always home when there on.
Here's my problem I have downloaded some half hour shows that were 1GB 350mb and 174mb
Here's what I would like to know what program's are they using to get them that small,I have not been able to find anything myself that will allow you to adjust the output size.
I have tried using any video converter ultimate and wondershare video converter ultimate,I tried looking to see if either would let me adjust the fianl output size but I could not find any option's. |

im wondering why you want them that small, if its for a mobile device i get it and if you have very little storage space i get that too, but usually for a half hour of video i dont make it smaller than about 700-750MB or its a poor picture when full screen. but you may want to look at conversion apps for mobile players like free 3GP video converter.
sorry no link handy right now |

the smaller the file size.... the worse the quality
so if you are starting off with a 1gb mkv file and convert it to avi.. it will drop to 300mb or less
a usual half hour show is around 175-200mb in .avi format.. the larger ones are usually HD 1080p type stuff mostly mp4 or mkv format
if you are just getting it to watch the show dont waste your bandwidth and get the smaller size |

I have downloaded some TV Shows from thepiratebay from uploaders like TV Team that usaly have really good uploads and they are usualy quite small, but then again I have gotten some that a 1GB and both have had equal video quality and they are the same show.
The reason I would like to be able to shrink them is because I would like to burn them to disc with Convertxtodvd where you can put alot on a disc without hurting the video very much if at all.

this is a freeware, ive used it to put videos in format for my smartphone and im not sure how it may be limited or not
http://www.dvdvideosoft.com/products/dvd/Free-3GP-Video-Converter.htm
but you know about the size to quality ratio now so try it if you want, ive used it maybe a dozen times, it will ask to install a toolbar but just say no when the option comes up |

don't really need to reduce the size and quality just drag up to about 6GB worth of shows into the window and click convert.think i've put more than that on a disc when it comes to tv series.
the 1GB will be 720p releases as mkv and be far superior quality than the 175MB and 350MB avi
mkv 800MB-1GB or thereabout is 40 some minutes for a hour show
550MB is usually a 20 some minute half hour show
avi 175MB is usually a half hour show which is 20 some minutes
350MB is usually an hour show |

The only way to change the size of the video is to change the bitrate of it, which is a waste of time unless you are uploading something to youtube or playing it on a iphone |

I have alot of 480p 30 min shows at around 50-60 mb, great quality. I honestly dont know what prog or source their using to achieve that, though i think they start with 720p. But all this is irrelevant if your going to be using convertx, convertx does its own compression, you just dump your files in there. |

The I understand the how Convertx works and I think it's a great program but the reason I would like to be able to get some of my downloads down in size is because I can get more on a disc this way.
I had all the episode's of the walking dead season 1 and and burnt them all to the same disc and they were smaller files then I scratched my disc and all I could find is larger downloads and they all won't fit on the same disc,I'm not worried about the cost of disc's I just want to keep them on as few disc's as possible so I don't have a ton of disc's laying around or to store.

not sure you're reading what was posted quite the way meant.i only recommend putting 6GB or so do to quality loss when compressing but you can put more on a single layer disc.
i see a 7.65GB 720p season 1 of the walking dead for example.i would split it 3 episodes each and burn two discs, but since you aren't worried about quality loss just drag all six in and click convert.
here's an example, dvd's are less than $.20 US each so went ahead and let it finish so i could show this.it's an 8GB file i stuck in convertx and let burnt to disc.
pics don't really do justice but here goes.original
finished dvd

You can add allot of TV shows to ConvertXtoDVD and set the the quality like the rest said.. More files you add the more quality you will lose ..
Converting any video file will have some quality lost |
