I posted in a thread recently that I was intent on buying another GTX 580 and a Corsair 1KW PSU so I could use SLi. Unbeknown to me (until Crooked_Ferret made me aware) was that SLi only provides a 20% performance boost. For what would cost me almost £500 minimum I have decided in layman terms..."SCREW THAT!!!".

So...new plan. I have found a mobo that looks incredible, link below...

Image

AsRock Z68 Extreme7 Gen3 Motherboard, Socket 1155, PCI-Express 3.0, DDR3, USB 3.0, HDMI, 7.1 HD Audio, ASRock Instant Boot

It has some amazing features as well as a good level of future proofing (or as close as you can get on PC). Instant boot sounds amazing as it skips the BIOS screens and goes straight to loading the OS. Speaking of which it also has mouse compatibility in the BIOS and a buttload of options. Check out the link because it is a very nice bit of kit.

It does mean that to use it I am going to have to get myself an Intel CPU so naturally an Intel Sandybridge i7-2600K Unlocked Core i7 Quad-Core Processor (3.40GHz, 8MB Cache, Socket 1155) is a no-brainer for me.

I still have £50 free from next month's budget so if any other suggestions feel free to add them.

All PC components seem to cost more over here mate but I have really looked and can't find it any cheaper. Shipping prices are through the roof too so its not like I can even get it imported for cheaper either. Still, even with this switch it's still cheaper than what it would cost me to run SLi which is pretty surprising.

It sucks but I'm used to it by now. I've also been considering some G-Skillz RAM, am currently using Corsair XMS3 . My RAM is classed as kind of budget I think (although I do have 16GB doing 1600MHz speed) but the Ripjaw RAM from G-Skills is optimized for Sandbridge. I was eying this set...

Ah your rocking the Vengeance RAM. I was planning on buying that exact set when I was deciding what to put into my now current build. I have also found that this mobo supports up to 32GB of RAM which is not a good thing for me to know. My OCD will not let me leave that capacity un-maxed.

If you have enough money try to go with X79
And I recommend GIGABYTE boards here

I go with devilz.

In my current build I’m going with the x79 lga2011 mobo. Yes it cost me a little more to take the step up but the word is intel is going to stay with
the 2011 socket for a while, or at least into the ivy bride range. You get a kickass machine now that will be up there for a while and the potential for
future upgrade to a chip that is still under development.
