a thread about your favorite composer. give reasons why, list favorite tracks, most influencing soundtrack, etc. also composers of Baroque, Romantic, Modern Classical, etc are allowed as well.

one of my faves is the great Danny Elfman. ive listened to all the great films he's done music for: Darkman, Beetlejuice, Batman, Edward Scissorhands... the films which i grew up with and the ones ive recently acquired. i even remember when he did the theme for the vid game Fable. anyone heard of his band he's a part of? Oingo Boingo i think it is called.

I'm a Bach fan myself!

I just love the melodies he produces. It's like he refuses to take the whole thing seriously but yet can't refuse the power of music.

No big deal. I like something or the other from all of them. Like Vivaldi's Four Seasons , especially Spring. At times I keep listening to it over and over.

Tchaikovsky's Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy is to me a particularly exquisite piece of music.

Debussy's Claire de lune , is unforgettable.

Cannot claim to be very familiar with Mozart's work, although his overtures are what I really like! but Beethoven is a different matter. It is difficult to imagine how anyone could invent such drama in music. Specifically his 5th Symphony. Very dramatic stuff. Hard not mention his Ode to Joy otherwise known as his 9th, based on Schiller's famous poem. And ofcouse, Fur Elise , which no one could fail to recognize even if the name means nothing.

Naming Brahms instantly recalls Lullaby . Most parents probably sung this tune to put their kids to sleep. Yours too! Now purists may crucify me for not remember some more eminnent of his works but really I couldn't give a flying fart. It's the one that stands out to me.

Rachmaninoff is a more recent discovery of mine and I have not heard him much. Honestly I think he might prove a tad too complex for me.

And there are so many more.....Copland, Rossini, Lientz, Struass (whose Blue Danube is an unbelievably beautiful piece of music), Handel, Ravel.....oh the countless hours I spent with these prodigies.

But the reason I prefer Bach above all is because to me, for some reason, his work represented music for music's sake. I liked more of his compositions than anyone else's. I guess that's as good a reason as any to choose a favorite!

As you can see, I am a fan of western classical music. I'll never be an expert but I do like it.

In tribute to it's range and transcendence, and for those who consider it boring, let me present two modern maestros whose recent work has been quite spectacular, to say the least. And to whom I was introduced on these very forums.

originally this poll was for all genres: TV, Film, Video Game, as well as Classical and Modern Classical. Unfortunately the list i had in mind was too large so i had to cut down the list [had probably 20 names listed].

WhiteViper had listed several composers i missed. my mind was elsewhere. but not to worry, this thread is about the composers, not the poll.

Richard Wagner was my choice, although i had a soft spot for Holst. The Planets are the only compositions i knew he did. if anyone knows of other compositions i'd be delighted to know.

Wagner's In The Hall of the Mountain King is a true classic. i also love his opera Tristan und Isolde. Three acts of pure mastery.

my choice for Richard Wagner was made by this influence.

it was Matt Uelmen's Diablo 2: Lord of Destruction score that got me influenced. his music for this game has been influenced by many composers.

quite interesting to know what his [Matt Uelmen] musical interests are.

@trollster sorry mate, tried to do a triple bump, but i guess it didn't work out.
