kdb2012......Sharing is not wrong but some of what is shared is copyrighted and there are those that would punish others for viewing or listening without paying....
Rights or wrongs of this are debated and ranted etc but the P2P community also has a huge amount of music film and literature which is free to share.
It is not a must to download the latest hollywood or sony music release. It is a choice......if you are afraid then don't do it.
However some movie producers as independents that make movies as "Ink" actually stood up and thanked the torrenting community as no major movie distributor was interested. It turns out the movie was exceptional and sold well due to the torrenting and knock on effect of the P2P communities. Many musicians and writers also embrace the P2P communities. With this in mind there is plenty to be found and plenty to both enjoy and share that is free and indeed encouraged.
To get a better understanding of what we the P2P communities are facing I suggest you download movies as "Steal this Film" parts 1 and 2. here are links.
http://www.stealthisfilm.com/Part1/
http://www.stealthisfilm.com/Part2/
Anyone who has not seen these two documentary movies......just do it.
I would also suggest you follow the link under my posts.....a very clear indication of the battle is given by Clay Shirky. Short eloquent straight to the point and a dammed sight more scary than a letter from a lawyer working for HW.
Even here at IH we have been fortunate to have the works of some independents that make short movies and internet only releases offered for the P2P communities.
So my final word would be do not fear the man......he just wants to close us down to seize control. By downloading the free stuff and pushing it to the front we can also wage war as it gives more power to those that create for free and often gather funding through donation and support of communities as us.
I do not want to give a list of names but google is a good friend and even bands of great repute offer their music for what you or I the downloader can afford.
I shall list just 2 names that I feel worthy of my monetary support.....download their music and enjoy. Support them if you can.
Marillion and Hoopy Frood. Without looking it up I think Hoop have done two albums both of which I own digitally. And Marillion I believe have released 3 albums paid for by their fan base. Someone will come along and correct me if I have made a mistake......fellow hunters are an amiable bunch
Wink

As I like their style here is a quote from the Hoopy frood website.

Donate
If you've found and liked our music, perhaps through file sharing or a copied CD, please feel free to make a donation (any amount you like). This will go towards future projects... and help restore karma Wink Thank you.

I shall not spam their webpage as that would be too much.....but they are easy to find.
